You might try rosemary oil or a scalp balancing scrub. I like Kerastace (https://www.kerastase-usa.com/search). It is soothing when my scalp itches and is healthy for my thin hair.

@marysara1 Wow! That must work very well for you. It's so costly--for me. I was interested in getting rid of the itching. The plaque is gone from my ginger shampoo, but I still get itching fairly often and try not to touch my scalp, because scratching just causes more itching.

I use a free and clear shampoo. and rinse my head with vinegar.
It keeps the itching down.
all the chemicals they use out there in the polluted world I try to stay away from, it all causes me some kind of health trouble.
God Bless

Hi again. There Is a liquid clobetasol for the scalp. That would seem much better to apply than a cream. Because the prescription shampoo and, after I discovered that it helps as much, the ginger shampoo have eliminated the plaque. So I only used the clobetasol liquid once. It seems worth a try for applying directly to the scalp.

@painsurvivor for a budget friendly option, try lavender oil and rosemary oil. Mix a little with a neutral oil before using. Rosemary has an anti fungal quality and can reduce inflammation.

I hope you find a solution that works for you.

@marysara1 I Love lavender oil and always keep some on hand. (It also chases away ants effectively!!) That combination of lavender and rosemary oil I imagine will make my hair smell so wonderful.
I'm currently using ginger shampoo, what I have left over from a brand no longer made. I ordered, but haven't yet tried, Edenika Ginger Shampoo, The main ingredient, unlike many of the other "ginger" shampoos, is ginger. Im going to shampoo with it today and will tell here how it works. I used to get plaque in-between washings with a Rx shampoo. With the ginger shampoo I've been using for the past few years, I have no plaque at all. All I have is itching.

Thank you again for suggesting a trial of those 2 oils in a neutral oil suspension. I'll have to see where I can get that kind of oil. Do you use it as a rinse after shampooing? Just want to check if that assumption on my part is right.
Thank you for your help!

@painsurvivor My hair is really thin, so any amount oof oil would be too much for it. So I use it at night when I know I am washing my hair the next day. I am sure you could use it after shampooing also. It all depends on what works best for your hair. Good luck!

@marysara1 Thank you so much for telling me how you use it! I too have very fine hair and now remember years ago shunning conditioners and hair products w too much oil for my hair. I’ll put it on at night with a cap and shampoo it in the morning as you do. Thanks 😊

Hi. I used to use a prescription shampoo that got rid of the plaque. For the past couple of years, though, I've used only an over the counter ginger shampoo. I'm at the end of a bottle and find the company I was buying from no longer makes it. It completely removed and prevented plaque from forming without drying out my hair. I plan to try another ginger shampoo that has ginger as the main ingredient. If it also keeps away the plaque I'll write here about it. It arrived and I plan to use it today.
I do still have itching on and off on my scalp and it has just been recommended to me at another blog here to use a combination of lavender and rosemary oils to leave on overnight (if you have thin hair; otherwise just use after shampooing) to get rid of the itching. It works for the person who recommends it. Someone else says she gets itching relief from an after shampoo dousing with vinegar. I do plan to see if the two oils combined work for me.
Trouble is, I have itching all over my body on and off all the time. I'm seeing my primary care physician this week to find out if I have an underlying disease or condition causing the overall itching. I will still try the combination of the lavender and rosemary oils on my hair overnight and will write here if it gets rid of the scalp itching!

@marysara1 Hi. Thanks so much for telling me and us about the rosemary and lavender oil application. I just ordered the oils and they should be here in the next couple of days. I bought jojoba oil as a mixing base. How much of the oils do you use for one application, please?
