Mildly dilated ascending aorta

Posted by asolidrock @asolidrock, Sep 30 8:52pm

I recently reported having stress test and echo which appeared normal. After I met with my cardiologist he said the stress test was normal along with my echo; he the said my ascending aorta was mildly dilated but wasn't concerned about it; of course it didn't ask any questions. After getting home I "googled it" and it seems that I get varying opinions on the the mild dilation. I don't have chest pain anymore but do feel funny in my chest sometimes. Anyone out there have any opinions.

Thanks

I just found out I have a dilated ascending aorta, 4.0. My cardiologist said it isn't worrisome, but A year ago it was nondilalated. Now I have to have CTs to monitor it.

Well we will just pray it doesn't get any worse how about that. The test could be faulty. I look back from several years ago and mine was 3.71 and with the last few years it was 3.59 so go figure

Just recently had a stress test and echo; both were ok. So I thought. My cardiologist said I had a mildly elevated ascending aorta but nothing to worry about; course went to my patient portal and looked at my report. My ascending aorta measured 3.9 so im joining this group for advice from others.

Welcome! Anytime you hear that you have a change in your health, it's worrisome. When it has to do with your heart, it can be frightening. This is a great forum to come to with questions and for support .
I was diagnosed 2 years ago at 4.2 cm. I see my cardiologist every 6 months. I get an ECHO every 6 months and a chest CTA every year.
You don't mention what test this measurement came from, but you said it was different from last year, so I'm thinking you may have yearly Echos. There can be inaccurate measurements due to technical factors or operator technique. I would wait for the CTA. They are more precise in their measurements.
Sending prayers and well wishes!!🙏♥️

@asolidrock. It's a computed tomography angiography. Basically a CAT scan where they inject a special contrast dye to create detailed pictures of your arteries and blood vessels. Much more accurate than an Echo.

I think it depends on who is reading the CT.
