Has anyone had severe nonstop ringing in ears after COVID?
I’m posting on behalf of someone very close to me, Maurice, who has been dealing with severe and persistent health problems following COVID.
His condition has significantly affected his quality of life, and despite seeing multiple doctors, specialists, undergoing extensive testing, and trying different approaches, we still have not been able to find an effective treatment or a clear explanation for why his symptoms have continued.
Some of his symptoms are extremely intense and persistent, particularly neurological and balance-related symptoms, along with other physical symptoms that began or became significantly worse after COVID. At times, the severity has been overwhelming and has made normal daily life very difficult.
We are now trying to connect with other people who may have experienced a similar post-COVID condition.
Has anyone here experienced severe, persistent neurological or vestibular symptoms after COVID that lasted for years? If so, were you eventually able to identify what was causing them or find a treatment that significantly improved your symptoms?
We would especially appreciate hearing about specialists, Long COVID programs, testing, medications, or other treatments that genuinely helped you.
Even if your symptoms were not exactly the same, I would be very grateful to hear about your experience and what finally made a difference for you.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share.

@vostie Me either. It's a complete guessing game. You could spend a fortune trying to find answers. It's soooo frustrating that you want to pull your hair out. I even tried Lexapro to help calm me down, but it made my tinnitus worse. Tried everyday, then tried every other day. I am at my wits end as to what to do. Had an MRI that didn't indicate anything. Acupuncture didn't help either. Don't understand how hearing aids would work since my hearing isn't bad enough to try them Also have too many different sounds, daily. It changes everyday. Seems to be far worse no than it was a couple months ago. There is no pattern. I write down everyday.

1 ReactionFrom a Facebook post by Robert Groysman, MD, who has LC clinic in Texas. He has written a series of books about LC and he sells them, so his posts are designed to sell books, but perhaps there is some information for us here:
"You never had ringing in your ears before COVID. Now it's constant. Your hearing test is normal. Your audiologist says nothing is wrong.
The hearing test is accurate. It measures hair cell function and acoustic nerve conduction. Both are intact. But standard audiometry does not assess blood flow to the cochlea.
The cochlea is one of the most metabolically active structures in the body. Its hair cells require continuous oxygen delivery through a network of tiny blood vessels. When endothelial dysfunction reduces perfusion to the inner ear, those hair cells receive inadequate oxygen and begin generating phantom electrical signals. The brain interprets these signals as sound. Ringing, buzzing, hissing, tones shifting in pitch throughout the day.
Think of it like an irrigation system with clogged sprinkler heads. The water supply is fine. The pipes are intact. But the sprinklers at the end of the line are partially blocked, and the plants at the edges are not getting what they need.
The cochlea sits at the end of the vascular line. When microvascular flow is compromised, it is one of the first structures to show symptoms. Laser Doppler flowmetry and OCTA of the retinal vasculature, which shares a developmental origin with cochlear vessels, can provide indirect evidence of microvascular compromise.
Your ears are not damaged. The blood supply reaching them is insufficient.
Volume 2 of The Complete Long COVID Handbook covers how autonomic and vascular dysfunction affects sensory organs including the inner ear, and what testing can identify the mechanism behind post-COVID tinnitus."

1 Reaction@suefish Thanks for answering. An additional issue that’s really aggravating is the implication or worse, statement, that there’s no such thing as Long Covid.
@quickstepper And??? So he thinks he knows what is causing it but you have to buy the book to get information?? So this doctor is in it just for the money and probably doesn't give any true answers as to what can be done.
@gnana6 actually I read a lot of his posts on Facebook and I have learned some things about Long Covid. It would be nice if he gave his info for free. However, I don't think that because he charges for his books, his posts are not informative or useful. If I think it applies to me, I take the information to my doctor and I ask her what she thinks. I shared just because it was another way to gather information about this awful condition we all have here.

...? Would his Diagnosis "Information Provided " be covered by Insurance that they Cary ? If He's a Current Medical Provider " Doctor " ,and has the Answer that LongCovid Individuals need ,he has the right to Charge for his Health Cure. I would definitely check with your Insurance Carrier about the coverage
Hello, I can tell you my experience 4 days after getting my first vaccine(I hadn’t had COVID) but I think the pathophysiology is the same. I suddenly felt ill and got a severe headache. Lost vision in my left eye for a few moments, that night I developed blurred vision. Woke up to feeling dizzy with vertigo, blurred vision, tachacardia, difficulty walking and talking, electrical sensation running through my body and limbs. Went to the ER and they dx me with BPPV. Went to PT and they thought PPPD. I also immediately developed crushing fatigue and crashes for hours with loud tinnitus and internal tremors. Going into stores would worsen symptoms. Bending down I developed SOB and heart palpitations. Standing in line at the grocery store I got presyncope. Felt like I was going to pass out any second and had to sit down immediately and get to a safe place quickly. These symptoms lasted 5 years. I get the vertigo/dizziness mostly when I go for a walk. It starts almost immediately. I am most comfortable lying down or on my side at rest. I was dx with POTS/Dysautinomia. Among other conditions like MCAS and post vaccine syndrome. I would look up these diseases and see if they match your experience. The tinnitus I fall asleep with and wake up with every single day. No answers as to what happened and why and cause.

I have the tinnitus and all the other symptoms you described, except for losing vision in one eye. I also have dysautonomia diagnosis, but haven’t seen a specialist for that yet because there are so few in my area. Did the doctors treat your dysautonomia or MCAS? Has anything helped? I am also approaching year 5. I don’t have the dizziness but am short of breath all the time, have neuro attacks frequently, and tinnitus all the time.
