How about a laugh, (hopefully)

Posted by Jake @jakedduck1, Dec 31, 2018

I believe laughter is the best medicine. Laughter has actually been scientifically proven to help people with depression issues.
Let’s give it a try so we can all get happy and feel better. Many Epilepsy forums I’ve been on had joke sections. I was probably the biggest joke of all since I didn’t get a lot of the jokes. They said the jokes couldn’t be above 4th grade level for me to understand them so my jokes may be rather simplistic but let’s give it a try.
Have a lovely day everyone,
Jake

One definition of old age:

You can't have a conversation without talking about your health.

(I would have posted this sooner, but the arthritis in my knees is killing me!)

We used to have conversations. Now we have organ recitals.

@shmerdloff Yes, and unlike the kind of recital that pulls out all the stops, these days it seems there's nothing but the stops.

A doctor and a mathematician walk into a bar and find a couple of open stools beside a barfly.
The bartender, always enjoying the answers people will say, asks, "So, what's two plus two?"
The doctor says, "In my field, it's approximately four, depending on the dosage."
The mathematician says, "I can prove that it equals four with absolute certainty."
The barfly leans in, lowers his voice, and says, "What do you want it to be?"

“Tua memoria bona est!”
“Vale” is farewell said to one person. If there are more than one, it’s “válete”. Did u know the ancient Romans used no spaces in between written words? Nor for a long time did they have “lower case”letters. So, in Jan 49 BC, when Caesar crossed the Rubicon River with his legions (strictly forbidden by the Senate -> to have his army follow him in), it touched off civil was & led to end of Roman Republic, & eventual rise of the autocratic Roman Empire. to civil war. Caesar, pausing on the “legal” side of the river, tens of thousands of legionaries & cavalry anxiously behind him, the General thought long and hard about crossing with or without soldiers. Steadily, strongly he is supposed to have said: “Iacta alea est”, or literally “Thrown the die is”. Or maybe: “Alea iacta est”(Latin word order being flexible) “The die is cast.” Like in “There’s no turning back now guys!” But Roman scribes would have written his quote as: “IACTAALEAEST”. Sometimes “I” and “J” were interchangeable. Perhaps they did this because “paper” or even marble was expensive.
At that, all of Caesar’s legions crossed over; resulting in bloody civil war, an end to the Roman. Republic (like US), and the emergence of the Roman Empire. Are you asleep by now?

I know it's been almost a year since folks posted Latin language phrases here, but I can't resist sharing this little poem that my dad recited when I began Latin I:

Latin is a language
Dead as dead can be.
First it killed the Romans
Now it's killing me.

From St. Tommy More HS for Boys, Philadelphia, PA circa 1940
Actually, I enjoyed studying Latin. So did my dad.
Hope you enjoy the ditty!

Actually Latin isn't dead. Neither is Greek. We actively use both to describe medicines and science creations--television, telephone, etc.

A tourist goes snorkeling for the first time and buys every high-tech gadget in the dive shop—including a wireless Meta VR underwater mask.

He jumps into the ocean, floats out over the reef, and tests out his headset. He hears a beep, followed by a soft female voice saying, "Welcome to the Meta-Snorkel 3000! You are currently floating in ten feet of crystal-clear water. To your left is a blue tang. To your right is a parrotfish."

The guy can’t wait to brag to his buddies back at the resort. Checking out the 360 lens, he says into the mouthpiece “What’s directly below me?"
The voice calmly replies, "Directly below you is a sea urchin. And based on your current depth, you have roughly three seconds before you realize you forgot to wear fins."
