Anyone with COPD taking Nucala (mepolizumab)? How did it help?
I started Nucala a month ago, it’s an injection once a month. Has anyone else taken the monthly shots, how did they help?

@rmdmichigan the same nurse did first but then following month I had to go into the office and do it infront of her so they knew I knew what I was doing, I just gave my self the 8th injection. I pay 60 a month
@suzyq61 Do you know when you started being able to shop without your portable O2? After what shot? Do you still take it with you just in case?

1 ReactionThe out of pocket cost to the patient all depends on your insurer for medications. It’s quite expensive ($8000+) per injection for Nucala. For me, I have a max $3000 out of pocket a year and hit that very quickly with the Nucala copay, so now I don’t have to make another copay until 2027. Rinse & repeat.
If you’re under 65 and not on Medicare, they have some coupon programs and low income programs that yo can see if you qualify for. Medicare D has some annual cap on Rx out of pocket costs as well.
I can’t remember the out of pocket costs for Dupixent, but again, it depends on your drug coverage if you’re in the US. If you have it administered in the doctor’s office, you may have more covered than if you self-administer it. It’s pretty confusing to figure out the costs.
We had a nurse come to our home before the 1st Dupixent shot and she brought a sharps container, some alcohol wipes and the Dupixent. She spent some time showing us how to administer the injection and watched me do it. (I gave myself a huge bruise—let my H do the administering after realizing he does it much better than I do with no bruises.)

1 Reaction@suzyq61 Thank you. Guess I'm a little slower than you lol 🙂 I know everyone is different. I'm hoping to be able to go shopping without it too some day!

1 ReactionCOPD/Emphysema. Third month on self-injectable Nucala and it's been a miracle from the get-go. Also a recipient of three Zephyr valves installed in ULL, also a miracle for bypassing reduction surgery. In three months of Nucala, finally have stability without bouts of coughing up gunk. More energy and breath. About U.S. Medicare coverage, can confirm it is covered 100% under Part B.
