Anyone with COPD taking Nucala (mepolizumab)? How did it help?

Posted by snoots @snoots, Dec 15, 2025

I started Nucala a month ago, it’s an injection once a month. Has anyone else taken the monthly shots, how did they help?

The main way the biologics helped me is NOT having exacerbations one or more times/year. It’s not a miracle Rx that makes things FEEL a whole lot different or better.

Even when we had power outage for 89 hours & I had to sleep with pulse flow POC instead of my stationary continuous flow concentrator, no exacerbation. I’m very glad that problems like having to sleep with pulse flow POC don’t cause exacerbations. (In the past, I have gotten exacerbations when sleeping with POC.)

@kat1359 I recently did a summary of my daily journal for my Pulmanologist. I've attached the file here. It outlines the difference I have experienced after each shot.

I was taking Dupixent for 6 months, it didn’t help me at all.
I’m now going on my 5th month of Nucala, I haven’t noticed any improvement as of yet. They say it can take up to 6 months to start working. I will let everyone know if it has helped me or not.
I just seen a thing on this spray for BreathiZen. But it’s not FDA approved. Wonder if I should try it?????

@john2563 wow sorry you not getting any relief from the Nacala, I’m suprised your not feeling anything being you took 5 injections, I just took my 8th, after I took the first it took couple weeks before I felt anything and moving forward it was slow but definitely felt a improvement, I was talking to another on it and she said I was where i should be on the nucala and it keeps getting better which it has, before I needed my portable oxygen to go food shopping or anything out side my home, I don’t need that no more, have you told your doctor about not feeling anything, I could be wrong but that doesn’t sound right, if your not happy have the doctor change it, it’s our body we know what helps us and what doesn’t so you do what you gotta do, I was only on breztri and Ohtuvayre and it wasn’t enough I had to tell him I want to try another and he started me on the nucala, so speak to your doctor it’s your choice, hope you find something that helps you ❤️

My doctor is putting in an auth request with my insurance. I have a Medicare Part C Advantage plan. So is Nucala billed as a doctor's visit? My son has been on Zolar for years, and my neighbor has been on Nucala for years; they both do great with it. I can't wait I am fine as long as I sit but the minute I get up and move, my pulse ox drops to 85/88.

@john2563 well John I was approved for a oxygen concentrator in my bedroom and a portable and I would be out of breath just walking to my kitchen so I would say I am, I don’t need or use the concentrator so they picked that up but I kept the portable just incase we go away and I need it, but everyone’s body handles things differently, i started watching what I was eating and exercising everyday day just trying to keep living, I can’t exercise like most people so I bought the elliptical machine it’s just peddles on the floor like a bike and i peddle away, I can’t do a marathon but greatful that I can breathe better then what I was. Definitely talk to your doctor he’s supposed to help you

We have the auto inject version and my spouse injects me every 4 weeks with Nucala in my belly area. it’s much more convenient to take it on our preferred time than having to go to an md office for injections and my spouse is good at it. I’m not as good as I give myself bruises or have serum that drips out since I don’t get good angle.

My doctor is going to give me the first shot then I am going to give it to myself at home. Does anyone do it this way? How much does it cost?

Hello I'm still deciding also as I have rheumatoid arthritis and I already deal with swollen joints which is a side effect of dupixent and I don't need anything to make my R A worse
