I took have this awful disease Beth. I was given steroid cream , it wasn't much good. Know wash with Dermol which leaves a thin moisturising film. The itching has stopped. Best Wishes Mo

I have been diagnosed with genital LS for a year. It is painful and itchy. I tried the creams but once I stopped the itchiness came back.

I recently started taking a supplement for brain fog and I noticed a reduction in the severity of my symptoms . I take spermidine morning and night. 10mg.

I am wondering if this is specific to me or if this might help anyone else. I would love to know.

@elalios
I developed genital LS after a kidney infection. What has helped me personally is Eucerin UreaRepair PLUS 10% Urea Lotion, or another brand containing 10% urea, along with using cotton pads and changing them frequently throughout the day.

It took about five days before I started noticing the first improvements.

The best relief for me has been PURE EMU OIL, also fractionated Coconut Oil

I still find Lisepten to work the best for me over anything else I have tried. Good luck to you in finding relief.

@habs Thank you for this suggestion! I’ll try that! LS is no joke! Sometimes I use SSD cream on my LS leisions, and it helps to heal, especially on the back side of figure 8 lesions.

I have had it many years. I found that glycerin soap is best to use, not perfumed or harsh soap. Maybe Neutrogena or Pears. Clobetesol works for me, but you need to use it by prescription on a constant regular schedule and do not miss a month or week, or it all gets itchy and takes months to clear up. Emu oil and emu soap also seems to work sometimes, in between clobetisol weeks. And cotton underwear is a must. Nylon and polyester just seems to irritate it. After many years of every week, the last 10 years my dosage is twice per day for 7 days, one week per month, the same week each month. In addition, Estrogen cream twice per week, every week works for me. They key for me is to be consistent using the clobetesol.

I was diagnosed with LS which unfortunately turned into vulvar cancer. Went thru radiation & some Chemo. Cancer came back & had a vulvectomy. Cancer back again. Anyone gone thru this?

@shara16 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I hope you’re reading all these postings because they are full of good information. All of the information about the creams is based on personal experience and is not prescribed by a doctor. If a prescription is required, it will say so.
SSD refers to a crème called silver sulfasaladiazine which requires a prescription. It’s one more cream used to treat lichen sclerosis.

I have had Tulip Procedure at Coyle Institute in Pensacola three times, with what I consider to be great results. For me it gives relief from itching and flares for about a year, then it’s back to Dr Coyle for another treatment. Totally worth it for the months of relief it gives. Sadly, my body just never gives up on the LS gluing things together and the misery returns. (I tried another urogynocologist in Phx but he ended up being a charlatan imo, didn't remove any scarring, gave zero relief.)
I encourage you to try Coyle Institute since you live that close.
Wishing you the best.

I just received a notice that Coyle Institute is closing Oct 15, 2026, as Dr Coyle is retiring. Makes me so sad.

Thanks very much.
I was prescribed clobetasol and responded well to it.
