Any sound deafening ideas so I can sleep with my snoring husband?
Does anyone have any noise reduction ideas so I can sleep with my snoring husband? I already wear foam ear plugs and have two fans running on high but I can still hear him? He doesn't snore steadily all night just off and on but I am a light sleeper who takes meds for insomnia. Lately, I've slept in a separate room. He doesn't seem to have sleep apnea. He travels for a living and is exposed to dry airplanes so when he's home he's often dry. I've tried putting a humidier on his side of the floor and he complains about light coming from it. He won't consistently use moisturizing nasal spray at bedtime either. Help!

@blueskies1530 - when my husband snored a lot about 5 years back, I tried a white noise machine and patting him when he started to snore. He started feeling like his sleep was getting worse due to me waking him up.
So, he ended up doing a sleep study and got a CPAP. That took care of the snoring.
How's it going with your husband and his snoring?
@lisalucier His snoring has been better for me because when he is home he now sleeps without ear plugs. Therefore, he wakes himself up pretty quickly when he snores. I sleep with earplugs just in case he does snore and then turn the fans on high.

1 ReactionGod, I hope I can help. My wife snored like this for years. After pleading with her for years to go to a doctor, she learned she had what's called as "acid reflux" and medication was prescribed and a special pillow prescribed, as well. This had her head sleeping at a different angle. Although awkward for her to use, it cured the problem within a couple days. This was crucial for me because I have epilepsy and need all the sleep I can get. I'd consult your doctor first before trying. My mother slept in another room for over 10 years prior to my father's snoring and passing because he would not see a doctor for his snoring. This situation ruined their marriage. She woke up so tired and aggravated from lack of sleep each day. I wish you luck.

2 ReactionsThe moldable silicon gel ear plugs (drug store, three pairs in a clear plastic rectangular box). Shape them with a narrower 'tower' to enter your ear and mash the mushroom part that's left against your ear. They work very well for my wife and me.
A white noise generator bedside. The volume might matter as much as the type of noise, so if you elect to try one, make sure it has sufficient decibel output (50 and up).
Separate sleeping arrangements. Sorry, has to be said.
Change bedding, mattress more frequently, vacuum the floors and under the beds more often....the idea being to reduce the irritants and allergens that might result from infrequent changes and cleaning. We spend up to 8 hrs at a time in the bedroom, a third of each day. They need maintenance, and bedding should be changed NLT every 10 days or so.
Get new pillows. Yes, new pillows. Allergens.
If your room humidity is NOT between 45-66%, then you may have a problem with the nose being too dry or the room having mold from too much humidity. Have you ever found mold on the window sills, at the place where carpets run under the molding/trim, in corners, behind the beds? It happens in some environments.
