Buspirone and side effects
I started taking 5 mg buspirone twice daily for significant anxiety due to chronic pain but the side effects are overwhelming with nausea, drowsiness, leg weakness, etc. Anyone have experience with this medication and whether the side effects go away? Has it been effective for you? Doctors seem to think this is a safe medication and good for older people, but they don't tell you to expect these side effects. Your input and experience with this drug is greatly appreciated! Thanks

I've been on a combo of Wellbutrin (225 mg/d) and Buspar (45 mg/d) for more than 10 years....These drugs have been life savers!

Have you started talking buspirone (BuSpar) lately, mugsie1975? If so, are you experiencing any issues with it?
@lisalucier
Started taking it about three weeks ago started with 5 mg for two weeks now I’m on 10 mg see my psychiatrist today. I’ve had some nausea associated with it but nothing I couldn’t handle hoping it works for my anxiety. I’ve been dealing with anxiety for a while now, but I’m also trying to taper off a Klonopin.
@anxietyhater
That’s the exact reason why I’m taking it to get off of the Klonopin. I’m on Klonopin .625 daily the BuSpar I’ve been on for three weeks. The first two weeks were 5 mg and the last week has been 10 mg. I can’t really say how much it’s helping yet because I think it needs more time to work side effects have been minimal. I take it with food always when you’re taper off a Klonopin, it overrides a lot of benefits you get from other medicines. I wish you luck.
@mugsie1975 terrible side effects for me . I stopped it after 2 weeks.

1 Reactionthanks for facilitating my post about Buspar be moved to more appropriate place.
For those of you just starting Buspar, I am/always have been hypersensitive to drugs...and I started taking 45 mg. of Buspar (plus 300 mg of Wellbutrin) in 2014, has experienced no side effects other than dry mouth...but the difference in affect and thoughts is night and day. Well worth needing to use cough drops or frequent water.
I am so grateful to this pharma combo...it took me back from the ledge.

1 ReactionI’ve been on Buspirone (15 mg twice daily) for 6 weeks and have experienced light-moderate relief from generalized anxiety. Unfortunately I have also experienced severe insomnia. I’m switching to Lexapro.
It took me a while to conclude that buspirone was the cause of my nighttime bad dreams followed by spiking blood pressure and headache. I’m 92 with lots of health issues & meds. Lexapro taken many years ago, affected my stomach. It’s hard to pinpoint what med affects you because each person has different reactions. Good luck with the Lexapro! And keep searching until you get it right.
