This is always a sad and bewildering time. But.... Forget about what you are SUPPOSED to do. Just do. Spend your time telling him you love him, and that you expect to see him in the next life. pray for his comfort. remind him of the good things of the past. Smile as often as you can. Dying should not be painful, and the worst pain is the relationship confusion. So make sure he knows he has been great for your life.

Hello @neoandgreen, I'm sorry to hear that your brother is sick.

I don't think there is any right or wrong way to react. As old karl said above....spend this time with him telling him you love him.
Here is a link to a cancer coping and support page at Mayo Clinic that you may find helpful. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cancer/basics/coping-support/con-20032378

Prayers to you and your family.

bless your heart. 21 years old and dealing with this horrible disease, doesnt seem fair. Have to remind myself constantly that God is in charge, not us imperfect humans. My husband about to transition to AML, 76 yrs old. We, too are scared and dont know what to expect, may I ask when he was diagnosed and how long has he fought this disease?

Anyone dealing with this? Recently diagnosed with CML and looking for any additional information one may have.

Hello @craighatescancer. You may notice I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion of the same title. A few members like @dell060969 talked about CML. There are also quite a few posts from 2012 in this thread, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/ive-had-chronic-myeloid-leukemia-for-3-yrs-anyone-else. Conversations from that long ago offer good archived exchanges but may not have active members in it. I'd like to invite back @missvee42 and @lindav to rejoin the conversation on CML.

@craighatescancer, how are you doing with your recent diagnosis, both physically and mentally? Will you be starting treatment soon, or have you already?

I’ve had my extreme anxiety day prior to diagnosis and my depressed day following the news. This comes after colon cancer (2013) and prostate cancer (2015) so somewhat in disbelief that I’m dealing with a third. Started taking Imatinib (pill/tablet) on Wednesday and will have bloodwork done weekly for 4 weeks and then talk with the Doctor to see how things are looking.

Diagnosed with CML 11/2018. Anyone else on the same journey?

Diagnosed in January of 2019 with CML and have been taking Gleevec (Imatinib) to help keep things in check. Some side effects (but manageable) from the medication but it seems to be helping as my blood work results have improved and a recent bone biopsy showed improvement as well. For now I’m having blood work done every 2 months and a Dr consult every 4 months.

Glad to share some more.
The initial diagnosis was to say the least terrifying for myself and my daughter. My wife lost a ten year battle with cancer in 2015. My BCR number was very high and we weren’t sure how well I would respond to treatment. I’ve been on Sprycel 100mg the whole time and am responding very well. Started out having labs every 2 weeks to every 6 months with my last follow up in August. Managing the side effects of the Sprycel in my biggest challenge at the moment. On the positive side, managing side effects is better than the alternative.
