24 Hr PH test for GERD - question for those who have had this done
Tuesday morning I'm going to have a tube inserted for 24 hours to test for GERD. I went to National Jewish who diagnosed GERD as the cause of my bronchiectasis and cavitary lesions. I'm getting this test to confirm this diagnosis. Anyway, I am wondering if I should take someone to drive me home afterward. There is no anesthesia used so I should be able to drive myself, right?

Jenablalock...the procedure sounds like it goes into category ( obnoxious) with MRI's , enemas.
Will send white light to you to help you speed thru day... is it removed tomorrow? Do you return for removal???
Bless your hubby for coming tdrell
@tdrell. I'm glad I didn't really know what to expect especially with the first test. I did hear a man gagging and choking in another room and thought, "uh oh". I am proud to say he gagged way more than I did. 🙂 They pulled out the big tube at the hospital and I can pull out the small one myself after 5 AM tomorrow morning. It's coming out at 5:01 AM. I am very glad my husband came with. I could've driven home but it would've been uncomfortable because my nose was so sensitive and the first procedure was a little bit traumatizing.
Aaaand done! Pulled tube at 5:01 AM this morning as soon as I woke up. Yeah, I'd do another bronchoscopy before i do that again. Of course bronchoscopies are over with quickly and you get those great hospital meds. 10 days until results. Crossing fingers for something definitive. Thank you all for your support and answering my questions.
Congratulations -- and now it's over. You don't have to dread it any more. Hoping for good results for you. I do wonder why you have to wait 10 days for results. Mine were the next day. It will all be good !!!
@auntnanny Thanks. Not sure. Maybe the doctor will be out of town or she just gives herself that much time in case it's delayed. I still need to drop the machine off at the hospital this morning so maybe by the time they get it and read it, etc. I've waited so much longer for MAC results that 10 days seem nothing.
@jenblalock
I'm so glad that it is over for you. Yes, I agree that after all that you have been through a 10 day wait is certainly OK. Best wishes for results that are helpful to you!

Jen - hope your results turn out for the best. I do not want to go through that - not for 24 hrs.
@barbie46 Thanks. Yeah, it's a bit more gross feeling than I expected.
Results: Motility - Normal! GERD - mild that I probably don't feel. Take two chewable Gaviscon daily. Wow! Totally different than the dire diagnosis I received from NJH. I'll send results to NJH and see if I get any feedback.
Jen, @jenblalock
The results sound good! Thanks for updating us. I'm sure you are relieved.
