@pb50 Thank you SO very much for sharing about lithium orotate and what you have learned, the study materials you found and that you have started a trial of this. Soo very inspiring! My husband just recently diagnosed with early stage memory changes consistent with Alz... He was prescribed a med even before any testing was completed to see what factors could be contributing to this change. No MRI done yet, no sleep study done yet, no blood work yet... just a neuropsych exam. And asking to recall some words. His vit D and vit B12 were suggested by neuropsych thankfully and both were low. I have already noticed positive mood changes since starting those 2 weeks ago. He and I talked about this and have held off on trialing any meds for now. With no cure, only 20% help in clearer thinking, 20-40% risk of stroke with the meds, are we kidding? What kind of efficacy is that? Not with those risks. Instead we are following through with one genetic test which would determine risk of brain bleed with the medications, oral or infusion. I just am so grateful for this forum and for you sharing your experience. After all testing has been completed (not before so as not to taint results) will trial with some lithium and keep you informed.

1 ReactionI am sorry to hear you and your loved one are facing what many already are. And yes, whether it is one of the two drugs approved for trial or a different approach, everything has risk and the two of you need to be patient in evaluating those risks for yourselves - along with your Doctors. I hope you finish the diagnostic tests to understand the individual profile that might make certain options more risky.
Be cautious and patient before taking any direction. Every option has some risk and it can vary widely by individual. There are a few of us who have chosen lithium orotate. But it is not without risk and we do not know what benefit, if any, we can expect. And although my doctors are aware of my choice, they do not support it. And because we have no human trials to point to as the basis for defining expectations I am not recommending it, as I have no expertise or experience to make such a recommendation credible. I am giving it a run after doing extensive diagnostics and exploring other options just as you are now.
This disease isn’t terribly fast. So take your time with your exploration and decision process. It is very personal at the end of the day.
All my beat wishes for you both

5 Reactions@pb50 I appreciate your wisdom and reminders that we have time. Will definitely stay involved with providers too. When I went through a cancer challenge about 15 years ago, I chose a path of treatment that was not recommended to me by Oncology at a prestigious clinic. I didn't make the decision lightly; thankfully I was given 2 wonderful books as resources that were filled with testimonies of women who had shared their experiences and modalities of treatment and outcomes. Those were of invaluable help to me. And I realized only God knows all the days of my life as they are written in his Book of Life. I found my way through reading the Bible and the other resources. I am leaning on God to help me/us in this challenge too, whatever the outcome. I appreciate your vulnerability in sharing your story. And wish you all the best in your quest for good health too! ❤️
@luhn i am comforted that you have a source of strength. I found this awesome community in my own cancer journey 3 years ago. There are a few of us on the AD journey sharing insights about our own experiences and whatever learnings we may stumble across. Drop in anytime.

Hi @pb50, thanks again for sharing your experience. Since you’ve been taking lithium orotate for quite a while now, may I ask how you’re doing today? Are you still taking it, and have you noticed any meaningful changes in memory, cognition, mood, or daily functioning? Any side effects or changes in lab results? I’d really appreciate any update you’re willing to share.
