Considering Zoloft but . . . any experience?
My husband, 82, has Alzheimers. He is likely in early stage 5. He can dress himself, shower (but sometimes insists he did and goes days without) makes himself toast in the morning and reads the newspaper. I take care of everything else. We still enjoy watching sports together and I can get him to go out to dinner but he is quiet and often seems uncomfortable. He does shadow me and cannot be left alone for more than about an hour. He was an executive but can no longer manage our finances and really cannot make decisions anymore. I do all of it.
We have five sons and nine grandchildren. When the kids are around he is quiet but pretty calm. He asks them basic questons but mostly observes and I know he enjoys them being there. When it is just the two of us he shadows me all morning and in the afternoon is obsessed with our finances and asks me to outline everything over and over again. He has forgotten how a bank account works and is constantly insisting the the people at the bank are stealing our money when he sees that money has gone out to pay bills. He suffers from sundowning and is on Memantine and a very low dose of melatonin in the afternoon and at night. Recently the paranoia and obsessions have increased and the doctor recommended a low dose of generic Zoloft. I am torn because I don't want it to take away anything that he still has, especially when the kids are visiting, which is often. Does anyone have any advice on Zoloft and the effects it has? Thanks.

@sandyar I’ve been on Zoloft for forever, but I think you want/need info from caregivers whose patient is on Zoloft. It would make more sense. Anyway, I’ve not had any side effects except at the very beginning. I had some diarrhea and insomnia (the doctor said to take the drug at bedtime). NOT! Once I switched to mornings it was much better. I’m also sure that some members will let you know their experiences!
