Nabulizing time

Posted by lindenflower @lindenflower, 6 days ago

Guys, how much time do you spend on nabulizing?
It takes me 2 hours a day.
30 min - Albuterol, 30 min -saline. And it’s twice a day.
What kind of machine to use to make it shorter?
My throat is hurting from so much.
Plus, I’m noticing the compressor gets really hot, and there are water bubbles in the tubing by the end of the sessions.
Something seems not right.
Please advise.

@vstankie Thank you!
How long does it take in the inversion board- a whole night?

@lindenflower an inversion board is actually used by people with back problems. But I use it to drain my lungs. Basically, invert myself not totally upside down but at a pretty good angle, and let gravity work. If there's anything to come out after I huff several times, if it comes out then I go upright to spit it out. Then invert, huff a few times, go upright to spin it out. I will do that 2,3,4 times til I feel I've got out everything I can. I don't stay on the inversion more than three or four minutes total. My pulmonologist actually suggested this, and it works very well for me if I can get the mucus loosened. I hope I explain this in a way you could understand. It really makes a big difference with me.

@lindenflower not sure, but I think you're mixing up the decimal for the saline solution. There's a .09% and a 7% .
I purchased .09% at a medical supply in Florida without a script. The 7% requires a script.
The .09% did absolutely nothing for me. The 7% is working very well , I am bringing up mucus without a lot of effort. I use an inversion board and let gravity do a lot of work.

@vstankie One more correction, it is 0.9% saline (also known as "normal saline") the same concentration as in out tears and body tissues. Then there is 7% saline, as referred to here. As a fun complication, there is also 3% saline, used by some who cannot tolerate the 7%, but it can be hard to find. Finally, there is 10% saline, which respiratory therapists sometimes use to induce sputum cultures - it is very harsh, but usually works.

@sueinmn Thank you!
I will run it past my doc.
The only thing, my insurance probably doesn’t cover 0.9 %just like it doesn’t cover 0.7 %.
Where do you, ladies purchase those, if I may?

@lindenflower Talk to the pharmacist about a
GoodRx or similar discount coupon. Many of us do not have coverage for our saline - I am fortunate that my specific Medicare supplement covers 7% saline (not 0.7% which would be too weak) as part of my lung coverage. But under a different plan, the pharmacy used a discount to get me the beast deal.

Yes, I do 7% saline and albuterol in the cup at the same time. I tried using 7% saline by itself, and it was very difficult because it's so harsh. If you are truly using .09 % saline, it won't work. It's the same saline concentration as our blood. You need 7% saline. I hope this clarifies.

My doctor gave me 3%. Anyone else? It seems to work fine. Maybe because I don't weigh a lot?

@vstankie do you nebulize 7% while laying on the board?

@cressida92 I’m also on the three as that is what my Dr prefers. I don’t produce mucus but plugs show up in my scans and during the bronchoscopy. I like my Dr and hope/ feel that if nothing else the saline provides some benefit so continue with nebulizing with the 3%.
