Reclast infusion side effects?

I did not have chickenpox and I did get shingles but that was before Reclast. I’ve had the shot not had shingles since. Then was told I needed Reclast since I burst a vertebrae and showed osteoporosis in my back. I did the IV and didn’t think I had any major side effects… then about 3-4 month later they discovered I was severely anemic and eventually needed a transfusion. I’m am due for 2nd shot in Sept. but I’m not inclined to take it. They said it wasn’t the Reclast but nothing else changed in my life but that.

@travelon best to do your own research on the Reclast! I’ve been to endocrinologist, neurologist, and rheumatologist and not one can explain why I’ve experienced all the symptoms I’ve experienced over the past 2+ years!

Oh, it’s the ReClast! My side effects happened one day after the ReClast infusion. I had severe pain in my hip and thigh. This is evidently one of the known side effects that is considered acceptable. That stuff is poison. I still can’t walk any length without pain.

I looked briefly online for lawsuits related to Reclast. Novartis got away with it every time seems like. But I’m tempted to call a law firm in NY to get an ideia of what’s going on and if there’s any class action suits ongoing. I’ll post back next week. Thank you.

I had the reclast done a couple of years ago and maybe a few hours after I got home I was ok until I was getting up to go to the bathroom and I screamed in severe pain because I was now looking like a 90 year old women who was bend over at the waist and could not walk I had to have help and slide my feet to get to where I was going I was like this till the next day my husband couldn’t get me in the bed we tried for 30 minutes I cried and screamed till I had to go back on the sofa to sit and try to sleep it was like every bone in my bone had cracked and I couldn’t straighten up . When I called about what happened she could care less and said oh that’s normal well I lost it and had some choice words for her it was so painful and took almost a day or two to get upright I was looking at the floor all I needed was a hump in my back then u would really get what I was walking like . Never went back to her and never took what I call fentanyl and off the street crack cocain mixed together again . Got back on prolia hope no one has a story like this cause it was horrible ☹️

@travelon I just started Recast August 16. No problem so far. As for the anemia, I began to notice my hemoglobin drop about three to four years ago when I was donating blood. It is common as we age to need to supplement with leafy greens and, sometimes, Ferrous Sulfate. With a breast cancer diagnosis in November 2023, I began Anastrozole in April 2024. As a result of Anastrozole, my bone density dropped like a rock, hence, the Reclast. Currently, the hemoglobin is at 15.8 which necessitates forgoing the Ferrous Sulfate and waiting for the next blood test to monitor it. It's a delicate balancing act when managing health issues as we age. Stay informed and active.

Yes. I had no issue but apparently had mild stenosis in my neck. A week after the Reclast infusion I developed a horrible knot in my shoulder and neck. After running, yoga, massage then 3 sessions of PT I went to an orthopedic she recommended more PT. 8 more sessions Nothing changed. Got an MRI. They blamed it on stenosis (which I never had felt before) but recommended a steroid shot in my neck. That caused sharp needle like pain which I still have. This is August. My infusion was January 23. My pain started on January 29. Doctor refused to acknowledge any correlation to infusion. It seems the steroids is wearing off. I will not repeat that or Reclast. Hope it all eventually goes away.

@lwidstrand I have had two Reclast infusions (2025 and 2026) and noticed weight gain with this second one in early August. I was on a steroid back in May for severe lower back pain, so I guess it's possible it could actually be from that...or perhaps a combination of the two. I did gain a few pounds on Fosamax when I was on it years ago, but eventually it leveled off a bit. As soon as I stopped Fosamax, the weight came right off. It's mostly in my abdominal area, which is where it was while on Fosamax. I cannot get the scale to move no matter what I do. My endo had never heard of that, but he said if patients don't mention it to him, of course he wouldn't know. It's very frustrating, especially knowing that I have one more infusion to go in 2027.

Hi all
I had my first Reclast infusion in April, I didn’t get the flu like symptoms in the first couple days but I got a unusual stiff neck that ran up my head and it spiraled into a bad headache. That lasted 5-7 days then went away( not) Now I have flare ups every couple weeks sometimes with dizziness. Just curious to see if other have had the same symptoms? This is still better than the Prolia side affects.
