Has anyone used PRP or Stem Cell Therapy to fix cervical discs

Posted by jenapower @jenapower, Aug 25, 2017

I've explained on another thread that I have one Drs opinion that I should have my C4-7 fused because of degenerated discs. He then said he could do bi-level C4-5 & C5-6 disc replacement and only fuse C6-7. I'm waiting on my second opinion Dr to give me his thoughts. I've wanted to know if the PRP or Stem Cell Therapy could help with my issues and if anyone had this for cervical problems or knew anyone who had done this. It seems like they are using it for knees and hips, don't know about other parts. The one Dr that wants to do the surgery says it's not evolved enough for discs yet, years away. I'm going to ask my second opinion doc, but I'd love to hear if anyone's done it and their outcome first.
Thanks, Jennifer

Hello @jenapower,

Thank you for starting another discussion regarding stem cells, specifically related to the back. I would like to invite @winning ad @cobweb to this conversations as they have both discussed having PRP or Stem Cell therapy on their backs and may be able to share their experiences with you. I would also like to invite @pat3316 to this conversation as I think you are also interested in learning more about these treatments for backs.

Hi Cobweb,
Have you had this procedure or do you know someone that has for the repair of damage in the cervical area?

I have a doctor that wants to replace my disks in C4-5, C5-6, and fuse C6-7. I don't really want to have any major surgery done. I asked this surgeon about using stem cell therapy and PRP instead of the surgery and he said it's not feasible yet, the therapy isn't that developed, it is years away. I'm wanting to talk to someone who has done this therapy in the cervical area with success. I am located in Southern California and would like to find a doctor that is reputable here preferably, but anywhere that believes in this treatment and has had success. I don't know how to go about doing that because the people I've talked to all say it's too soon to use it for cervical. Thank you for your reply, Jennifer

i could shower etc immediately. Only restrictions were to not run a lawn mower or ride a bike. I did both. I am mid 70's. I could drive also. They ask that i have a driver for going home. It was injecting blood taken the previous day in your back. Not painful. Better than an operation.

Dr Kruse has an assistant that does the back. I know he was training other doctors in colorado last fall. The one thing that i feel needs to be done is the exercise every day for the back. Takes 10 minutes. I do the minute i get up. He is located in Toledo, Ohio.

I just found a place in LA near me that sounds like it is absolutely top-notch doing research, leading huge seminars, and also associated with Stanford medical center. I spoke to a person on the phone and she said they did do what I was asking for. Sounds like it's around $10,000 and maybe the insurance will pay for a little bit of something. My question to anyone who has had stem cell, do they do your bone marrow aspirate while you're awake, only numbing with lidocaine? I used to work in the medical field in the laboratory and assisted on bone marrow aspiration's. There is no way on this planet anybody's doing that to me while I'm awake. I passed out just assisting watching it being done. My mother who had multiple myeloma was talked into doing it by a Dr who told her it wouldn't hurt much and she never went back to him because she was so angry.

Curious how most doctors do this now a days? Thank you, Jennifer

For my knee they used a drill into the hip. I had little pain. Small drill. Not put under. It was mixed with my blood and injected into the knee. For my back blood was taken out and the next day injected in the back. Was old it was to stimulate my stem cells. Must admit it worked. Cost was around a thousand.
I have found most doctors say it doesn't work, but I noticed it is very affective used on arthritis. I have two friends who have had two surgeries on their backs and still not good. For me I had a lot of problems with a TKR. I was told how I would be good as new. I can no longer play tennis but biking, golf and gardening are doable. Good luck.

Thank you, that is great real life experience. Exactly what I wanted to know. Super surprised if yours was $1000 and they're quoting me $10,000. Boy they'll get what they can take, won't they!
