I am interested in finding a support group for Sepsis Survivors. Are there groups out there?

How do you prevent getting Sepsis again?

Make sure you clean any cuts or bites on your skin. If you have flu like symptoms, go to a doctor for either meds that will protect you; or confirmation that the wound is not dangerous. Before you go to the dentist, ask your doctor for a one-time dose of antibiotic before your appt. Make sure your diet is healthy and you are getting adequate rest.

Wow, that had to be really frightening for you! I’m glad you’re feeling so much better but considering the toll it took on your body it may be a slow recovery period. I know from experience with another illness that it’s tough to keep active people down! We don’t have the patience for a ‘slow recovery’. LOL. But slow and stead wins the race sometimes. It’s ok to take naps between periods of activity. Pushing doesn’t always net benefits.

I know there are other members who have gone through similar with Sepsis, whether from pneumonia or other events. So read through some of the discussion links I provided. There are more by typing in Sepsis in the top search bar. Don’t hesitate to tag a member by typing in their @name or simply by clicking the blue reply button in a reply that you’d like to comment on. That member will be notified.
I hope you continue to improve steadily. If you went to LaCrosse you’re in my home state of Wisconsin. Yikes, it’s a hot one right now so I’m sure that’s adding to the shortness of breath. Stay cool!
What does your doctor suggest for the shortness of breath. Have there been any pulmonary function tests for you?

@loribmt I, too, suffered septic shock as I contracted double pneumonia. I was admitted to the ICU for 8 days, and ended up having constant migraines big-time heart issues and trouble breathing. I was in and out of ICUs for 3 months with the headaches. I use oxygen only at night. I am now medicated for migraines and various heart issues. I am still very weak 9 months later. Sometimes I feel like I may not make it, sometimes I am cheerful and productive. If I overdo it, I suffer for it - taking naps and recovering.

Yes, I understand. It took weeks until I discovered it had affected my vision and that I had brain damage. I could not read for a year. The print would drip down the page. My brain felt like concrete, I couldn't do simple things I had done a million times. I had to leave my job and go on long term disability; never to return to work. I retired at 65 the normal age for me. I couldn't drive or stay on task at first. The healing is slow. I appreciated that you know the boundary of "too much". I know my limits and operate within them. Be good to yourself when you feel it is "too much" take a break and rest yourself. Good luck.

Oh my gosh, Sally, what a traumatic experience you’ve gone through and still continuing with the aftermath! From what others have mentioned this is a very slow, but steady recovery. So I admire you for taking one day at a time and understanding your limitations.
Were your heart issues directly related to the septic shock?

@loribmt
No. Evidently not, although the two encourage one another into yet another health crisis

I am interested in finding a sepsis support group too. I posted to Mayo but I don't quite understand this website. I never saw my own request and I don't even know if this message will be seen (?)
