My husband just started Aricept,he is dizzy is that normal?

@lg2688 Yes, dizziness, nausea, vomiting are all side effects to Aricept. They will usually wear off in a short time. Here is a helpful page of information.

My wife is on Aricept and Namenda. She takes Namenda twice a day. Because of possible side effects of Aricept, the doctor advised taking it at night. However, my wife did not appear to experience any expected side effects, although she still takes it at night before bed.

My husband was not able to take the drug. He stayed nauseated and dizzy to the point he could not function for two weeks. The doctor stopped it and put him on Memantine.

Does memantine work? No one has mentioned it tobus

My husband got dizzy when he was taking the memantine pills but is doing fine with the patches. I don’t think it helps very much.

@lydiasantee My husband was on Memantine (Namenda) for nearly four years until we realized the paranoia and hallucinations he experienced started after he started the medication. He is now off of it and only wears the Rivastigmine patch for memory. I can’t see where either have helped. Everyone has different reactions to meds, good and bad.

My husband has been on Aricept since 2014 and his doctor added Namenda a couple of years later. He had nausea from the Aricept for about a week but it went away and has not returned. I have no idea what effect either of the drugs have had but his decline has been very slow. A recent blood test rules out Alzheimer's so maybe his decline would have been slow anyway. He is 78 now.

My husband has been on aricept for 2 years. I don't think it helps at all, but who knows what he would be like without it? The only side effects he has had were some terrible night terror dreams. Has doctor told him to take it in the morning instead. That has helped. He also takes a bunch of supposedly helpful supplements, natural mushrooms etc, which is a waste of money according to his medical care team. He has not been on any other cognitive meds. Like I said I don't think it really helps. Good luck with everything! PS a lot of medications for lots of things cause nausea at first. But it will then subside
