Weight Gain with Evenity

Posted by susanew @susanew, Feb 11, 2025

Some have said they gained some weight when taking Evenity. Any idea at about what shots you noticed this? I am now going to be taking shots #9 and I do notice about a 4 to 5 lb. gain. Anyone else notice a gain in weight and if so, when was it noticeable?

@lovemybones That is a pretty big difference. Was your DEXA test completed at same place? I am so angry at all of this honestly. To be so athletic my whole life, eating well etc. I still think not enough research has been done on Osteoporosis. Nonetheless I get my DEXA end of this week and I am finally accepting how different my life is about to get with all these horrible side effects from OP RX’s. I will continue my research, but just sharing my honest thoughts.

My husband’s friend has been at another better equipped facility for nearly 20 years and he recommended despite the advice about not doing your scan on two different machines with different techs.
It was only $100 out of pocket. The local hospital was $700! So we went ahead and did both. I definitely wouldn’t recommend that …just a personal choice for more info.
Another deeper dive into interpretation of dexascans is for example the spine generally shows 4 Vertebrae being measured L1-L4. In my case they measured -3.2, to -5.1. According to the radiological guidelines when the high number is greater than 1 point greater than the adjacent numbers, mine was 1.5 it either needs to thrown out or looked at very careful buy an experienced expert in bone density…not something that is done regularly…especially here.
Sorry for the long diatribe…too much to put here.🤔

I am on month two of Evinity and I have gained weight (2lbs so far). I don't think it's from the medication per se, I think it's because my appetite is greatly increased - I'm thinking about food, craving foods, and eating too much. So, I just need to discipline myself. I have never been overweight.

I started Evenity last December.
I've had steady weight gain ever since. It's almost all around the belly. I gained a whopping 6kg! My regular weight has been around 48kg for most of my adult life and never above 50kg. With fasting and extra walking I managed to lose 2kg but over 2 months and simply can't shift it any lower and cutrently sitting on 54.3kg. I've never had a problem maintaining or losing a kg here and there before. I had the last two injections in my arms but not seen a difference in my belly. I'm 68. I don't know if it's coincidence but reading through the posts on this thread makes me think there could be a connection. I did report it to the Evenity nurse when she did her last checkin with me.

@paisleyvespa
I reported it to my Endo doc. She looked it up on the Evenity side effects documents, and she didn’t see any reports of such. I hope someone is updating their side effect accounting.

@bonita55 When the evenity nurse calls to check how I'm going, every month or so, I report the weight gain issue and she says she will make a note of it. Not sure it makes any difference. I also report that the arthritis in my hands has become more painful, ditto the bursitis in both shoulders. May or may not be connected. I'm seeing my endocrinologist in a couple of months and will discuss with her too. Only 4 more shots to go and then it's onto something else which probably also has side effects!

That’s nice that a nurse calls to check on you. I’m going to continue with the injections and I’m scheduled for a DEXA scan in October. Hope that positive results will be shown.

I'm 67 and I've put on about 7 pounds during my last six shots. Now, I've finished my shots and have just gotten my new Dexa results.
My hips are virtually unchanged, having gone from -3.8 to -3.6.
My spine improvement was better, from -4.8 to -4.3.
So, I'm still in a bad place and know my endo will tell me I must do Reclast or Forteo or some such, which I had hoped to avoid.
I was quite lucky to have only minor side effects to Evenity. Would I be as lucky with these other drugs?
With these new figures, my FRAX risk is: spine 22% and hip 5%. So that's 78% chance of not fracturing, and 95% of not fracturing.
I am back on my bioidentical hormones now. Can I hope that will be enough to help me?
All thoughts welcome, with my thanks in advance.

@callmekate
Me too…I’ve been 112lbs or so all my adult life. I’ve gained 7-8 lbs now after 9 months Tymlos.
How long were you on Evenity? The 12 months?

@callmekate Have you tried Tymlos or Forteo? Tymlos, especially, is supposed to give good results for the spine.

@bonita55 I'm not sure how it works in the US but in Australia, you sign up to a co-payment program with Evenity, and every 3rd dose is free which really helps as it costs AU$415 per dose. As part of that program you have access to a dedicated phone line if you need to speak to an Evenity nurse based in Australia but they also schedule regular check up phone calls. My DEXA scan is scheduled for November after my 12th injection.
Wishing you very positive results! My blood work after 3 injections was promising but I guess, only the DEXA will actually tell me if I've improved and by how much.
