Pain in leg muscles, tendons, and knees after Bilateral PE on Eliquis

Posted by smasneri @smasneri, Jul 6, 2023

One month after massive bilateral PE and taking 5 mg twice daily. Experiencing constant and continual pain in legs, mainly behind both knees, in tendons, and some muscle flare ups. Have had two ultrasounds and a CT scan on both legs since I was diagnosed June 6 and they are negative. My D Diemer is .43 and all vitals strong and regular. Echocardiogram shows no strain on heart. We have ruled most everything else out. No trauma to legs, no cuts, bruises or strains. Is this related to the Eliquis? My local hematologist wants me on it for another 5 months, I won’t be able to make that unless this subsides. Anyone else out there having this issue? Recommendations?

I was put on Eliquis after my heart attack was on it for a year and a half, My doctor finally approved me, stopping it, but warned me a blood clots or strokes. I was getting weakness in legs, kept getting worse. I’ve been up for 2 1/2 weeks now, but I don’t see any difference in my legs at all. I had asked if there’s anybody in this site that have stopped the Eliquis and had any side effects afterwards. Please let me know.

@ruth36 I have same problem on eliquis. Have not stopped but take only 1 2.5mg a day instead of 2. Not made any difference

I have done the same thing. Taking 2.5mg instead of 5mg. Have seen less weakness in legs but whole body still feels weak.

@ruth36 I am taking 1/2 statin every night and 1 night a week off, the knee pain has not yet returned. I do notice an overall weakness in my body but I am 66 so it may be due to that. I am going to start lifting light weights and see how that helps. I hope you feel better.

@dianempx did your doctor approve of you taking half the amount?

@ruth36 No, I am experimenting on my own to see what works for me, for my health and comfort - I developed vertigo over the past few months, PT is minimally helping and I read that statins can cause dizziness. I am due for a cholesterol panel soon so I will see if that doseage is adequate.
