I was going to start Forteo next month
I'm scared and start wondering if I should start Forteo, your advice is very much appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Best regards

And your age please?
@steveu75p Congratulation! That is a great achievement. I have finished my 1 box (28 days) of Teriparatide/Foteo. So far so good. I adjusted to mild side effects at the beginning; now, with slightly low blood pressure in the first half of the day, I don't have any side effects. I am on HRT transdermal estradiol 0.025 mg as a backup for Forteo gain, which I hope to move up to 0.05mg next month.
I wish everyone to be successful in the journey to reverse osteoporosis!

My dr won’t give me HrT because I am 70 May I ask how old are you?
@ipg I am 70 too. I was rejected by an endocrinologist and gynicologist for HRT as well. I searched for a private practice gynecologist who, in tandem with my cardiologist, after careful evaluation, cleared me for HRT. I had a total hysterectomy at age 34, and I was on Premarin until age 50 when WHI came up with a warning about stroke. Transdermal estradiol works differently from oral once and has few to no side effects. I cannot take bisphosphonates due to my dental implants issue, so HRT is one to back up gains from Forteo for me.

Perhaps your doctor is not up to date with the newest information about bhrt/hrt. Another issue that is informing his stance could be something in your medical history. Have you asked her what she is basing her refusal on?
@md79
I can’t take biophosphonates either. I am also at risk for bronj. I would look into Forteo but than what? Evista? Did you have side effects from Forteo? So far two drs said no. Are you taking the menistar patch of estradiol?
@gravity3
Age and risks with HRT post menopause.
@debsinwa I had 18 months on Tymlos and 12 months on Evenity. I am having another DEXA scan. After that, my doctor wants to put me on Forteo. I am not looking forward to a pen every day. Not to mention possible weight gain around the waist.

1 Reaction@ipg I was searching and reading clinical research data on transdermal estradiol and learned that transdermal estradiol acts as an anti-resorptive agent that locks in the bone-building gains achieved during a course of Forteo (teriparatide). Because stopping Forteo without follow-up therapy often leads to rapid bone loss, transitioning to a transdermal estrogen patch suppresses bone breakdown, stabilizes newly formed bone mineral density, and reduces the risk of future fractures.
Benefits of the Transdermal Route:
Liver Bypass: Delivering estrogen through the skin avoids first-pass liver metabolism.Lower Risk Profile: Transdermal application minimizes the risks of blood clots and strokes often linked to oral estrogen forms.
Consistent Delivery: Patches provide steady hormone levels in the bloodstream, helping keep bone turnover markers stable.
I am on an estradiol patch 0.025 mg twice weekly.

I hope you are doing well. There is a lower dose of estrogen .14 I believe called Menostar. Did you look into that? How old are you. I am 70! 2drs said no. So after Forteo I’m back where I was
