Anxiety and Depression

Posted by Lost @kill9874, Aug 14, 2017

I suffer from anxiety and depression. I'm on effexor er and seroquel. My mind is racing all the time and I constantly worry about everything. My mom has terminal cancer, so that doesn't help either. A lot of times I pretend to be happy, but I'm really not. I drive my mom to OSU for her cancer treatment when she has them. Since I do this, people feel like I shouldn't be on disability. They just don't understand what I go through. The only time I can sleep is when I take serquill . This makes me sleep, otherwise I cannot sleep at all. Any comments would be appreciated.

I'm sorry your Mom has terminal cancer and it is sad that just because you drive her to treatments some think you're not disabled. These are people who do not understand our mental health problems. I wish the public was more educated. I sincerely hope you feel better soon.

Hello Killk (@kill9874) and welcome to Mayo Connect!

I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's cancer diagnosis and treatment. Given that you deal with depression and anxiety, I know that your mom's health undoubtedly makes this worse. At this time, I wouldn't worry about what other people think, it is best if you concentrate on taking care of yourself and offering what help you can to your mom.

As you are a caregiver for your mom, I'd like to invite you to join our caregiver's discussion group. Scott, @IndianaScott, is the volunteer mentor for that group and I'm sure he will welcome you. They have great discussions on taking care of yourself while you care for someone else.

Please post any time you feel like it, we are here to listen and care about your feelings.

I completely understand what you are going through. The first time i went through bsd anxiety and depression was when my Mom was in the late stages of alzheimers and i was trying to take care of her. She was in a care facility but i was still responsible for her care. It took me a couple of years to get back on track. That was in 2008-2009. This time around i cant really say what triggered it but my husband retired and i went through a major surgery. within the last 2 years. Iam 71 now and i find this time around it is much worse. The meds dont take it away, they just calm it down. . I would love to sleep more than 4-5 hours. Iam on 300 mgs of Seroquel. 45 mgs of Mirtazapine and 20 mgs Buspirone and 20 mgs of Propanolol. I have been battling this round for about a year now.
