Diastolic Heart Failure Maintenance
A friend’s husband was recently diagnosed with diastolic heart failure. He is 51. on a variety of medication. I have a list of medication he is taking, and planning get him to Mayo for a 2nd opinion on the interaction of the meds.
Does anyone have experience with these medications for the heart and how they interact, will they make someone feel better or worse?
Gabapentin for neuropathy
Carvedilol and spironolactone are for heart failure.
Ritalin for ADHD
Lexapro for anxiety/depression

I don't take all the medications your friends husband takes so cannot comment on the interactions. I do know carvedilol takes some time to get used to.
I do see one very important drug left off with the friend having heart failure (Entresto).
It is a fairly new medication that just went generic. Have your friend discuss Entresto with his cardiologist. I think going to Mayo is important for second opinion.
Your friend can always make an appointment with pharmacist and go over these medications with him/her and their interactions. I did this recently at Mayo and we went over all my medications, interaction, and when to take. We also went over my supplements and if should be taking or discarded. All looking for drug interactions and something a medical professional should do for you.

3 Reactions@jc76 Thank you.
I went to the drug interaction site and learned some hard truths of how Ritalin affects the heart medication. My friend is going to try to convince her husband to stop taking Ritalin. He stopped working due to his heart.
He’s very stubborn too.

1 Reaction@asolidrock Thats a possibility. I’ve taken Jardiance for type 2 diabetes, it protects the heart and lowers A1C.
What I am trying to understand, if my friend’s husband can take 1 heart medication. He has a lot of side effects with different meds.

What my heart failure doctor said at Mayo was Jardiance was showing possible affect on remodeling heart with those who have heart failure.
I was put on it some time ago. Not for diabetes (I don't have it) but to help the heart remodel.
Hi Arvind, do you know the Grade of his diastolic heart failure? Grade 1, 2, etc.
Thats right I'm sorry if I misquoted you; just trying to help someone.

1 Reaction@followheart87 I am asking.
Thankfully he is not diabetic and my friend said, he is also not taking Ritalin as he is not working anymore.
