Elevated Vitamin B12 levels w/out supplements

Posted by lisakaypowers @lisakaypowers, 3 days ago

Hello
Does anyone else have chronic elevated Vit B12 levels?
I don't take Vit B supplements, my other blood levels don't indicate any liver or kidney function problems. I have read that this can be a result of chronic autoimmune conditions but none of my drs have stated this.
I am just curious if any others out there with auto immune conditions experience this?
Thanks for any input.

Chronic inflammation can increase proteins that bind B12, causing blood levels to rise.
This can occur in:
Autoimmune diseases
Chronic infections
Inflammatory disorders
Often, other lab abnormalities will appear alongside elevated B12."
"Some solid tumors have been associated with High B12 no supplements, including:

Liver cancer
Other gastrointestinal cancers
Lung cancer
This does not mean high B12 automatically equals cancer. In fact, many people with elevated B12 do not have cancer."

I think this is one of those sites where you pay a doctor to answer your question. I'm not sure of accuracy. You might find the entire piece interesting.

Hello, can you say if you’re comfortable how high it is. You would need to state the normal range of the lab you used. An example would be the labs normal range is 120-600 and your out of range lab result is 850.
Thanks

My B12 levels are high but since I have a neuropathy, I am suspending monthly b12 injections por a while. I will resume to the injections soon, and have them at least one a month.
I don't know what levels are chronic, by it is my understanding B12 is very safe.

I am not clear on your statement. But my levels currently are a little over 1800. The levels have fluctuated some over the years. My VitD is also somewhat higher than ' normal' without supplementation as well. But hasn't seemed to be too concerning to Dr's until now.
I was just curious if anyone else who has ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto's or POI history has had this.

@johnbishop Thanks. I did see that as well. Interesting.
Thank you.

yes, that is incorrect. Low is 300 and high is 1200. It also is not an exact number. I track my normal as 800+ that is when I feel the best, as well. When I have too much I get insomnia. Vitamin D should be about 50. When it gets too high it causes damage. You can look these numbers up or ask Ai!

Could diet make a difference? I don't know but wonder if you are testing after fasting or after a steak dinner.
Don't know that it matters.

My B-12 level last month was >2000 pg/ml. Commonly this is high, but because of my neuropathy, I am not alarmed. I have suspended the injections for a while but, I will resume them to one shot a month.
I do welcome any opinions or suggestions.

@samclembeau generally most of my labs are done 1st thing in the morning before eating. I have had a few in my life mid day depending what labs are for.
