@joetex I was on 15 mg for 3 months then 7.5 for 7 weeks then cut that in half to 3.75. Was on 3.75 for 4 weeks and 2 days. Now off it for 5 days. When coming off Mirt, there. Are certain withdrawals like, anxiety, sleep disruptions, tension on temples. However, I’ve been hearing that 1-2 weeks for Mirt to be out of your system

1 Reaction@visionsofelvis That’s interesting. I don’t know when I will be coming off. I’m on it for depression after my wife died. My doctor and I will discuss it in 2 months.

1 ReactionI have had a bad experience with Mirtazapine. I'm in my 80s. My doctor prescribed it for broken sleep & it helped with that although it took hours to wake up in the morning. After a few days of taking it, my feet, ankles, legs and hips became swollen. I had a normal CT scan and the consultant put the swelling down to Mirtazapine.
Over the next three or four nights I took half a pill (7.5mg) and the swelling reduced a bit but I woke in the night drenched with sweat and some nights had to change my nightclothes twice. After three days of this, I had diorreah coloured black.
Two night ago I came off the drug completely and slept fine but still woke up drenched in sweat. I also feel depressed and weak. I'm resting, taking liquid replacement powder and will persist like this until the slight swelling I have goes away - and I believe that I won't take prescribed drugs again.
My daughter is helping me to look into Magnesium supplements for better sleep.

1 ReactionBe careful it can be addictive my ex boyfriend has a problem with overtaking them it has ended him up in ICU 3 times. Don’t be scared about the medication it works well for him he just has a very addictive personality. Just be careful!!
@mackay13 do you mind sharing why you were on Mirtazipine and why did you lower the dose ? Ty
I was on it for about 2 months. Significant weight gain was a side effect. It made me ravenous. Gained around 40 lbs.

1 ReactionI am 84 and am taking 15mg at night to help with depression. I have also slept fine with it. My only problem is increased appetite since it is an appetite stimulant. The smaller the dose the more sleep inducing. I started on 7.5 and was sluggish every morning. The 15mg stopped that.

I was on 15 mgs. of Mirtazapine as an add on to Clomipramine. I have OCD, anxiety and depression. I couldn’t sleep. It helped me sleep but I did gain weight. I was on it for 3 months then tapered to 7.5 mgs. then came off it. It worked well to let me get to sleep.

1 ReactionHi
I've just started taking mirtazapine (15mg, about a week) and I'm really struggling with the tiredness (I've slept all through the night, about 10 hours, and still had to nap in the afternoons) and mood swings, particularly rage and anger for no reason. Has anyone else experienced this?
