Vascular dementia: I'm overwhelmed, what's next?

Hi my name is marie and i just found out today my mothwr in law got diagnosed with vascilar demntia woth diabetes. I work in the heath care and see it daily. Bur doe me this hits different when itz your own family. Im notmsure how to deal woth this. I am her medical poa on top of it all. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

hutchswife, You might want to start with contacting the local, county, or state agency on aging. They would be able to provide you with agencies that support those with the medical problems your mother in law is facing. Of course, your PCP should be the one to guide you with the diabetes treatment, and may even be knowledgeable as to local support for dementia.
Coming to this site is a good start, there are many posting here, who will have good advice to help you with this challenge. One source I used when my wife was struck with dementia, that was a lot of help, was a book "The Thirty Six Hour Day", I highly recommend it, to help guide you through the dementia minefield.
