Sutures didn't dissolve after tkr revision
Had 2nd knee surgery to remove lots of scar tissue. After 6 months the sutures aren't dissolving. The are visible under the skin as big bumps in a row. Very painful as it feels like they are coming through the skin.

In June the opened up my knee on the same scar for the 3rd time. All sutures were removed. Had to immobilize my knee at first since surures were holding tissue together so lost 10 degree of bend. No bumps showing under my skin. Feels like my knee was freed, like the sutures were hindering my movement. No more pain but will always be stiff. At least I can walk normally and sit with my knees bent. Had to wait a complete year to have sutures removed in order to allow tissues to heal from all the scar tissue that was removed during my revision. It was worth getting sutures removed.

1 ReactionI have the exact same thing! I saw my surgeon at 9 months, who said to give it more time. It’s been a year, and it hurts when I try to bend down. It restricts me from doing more exercises. I’ll be seeing my surgeon the end of this month, and I’ll insist he do something. I’ll keep you posted.

1 ReactionI got the sutures removed 1 yr and 3 months after revision. Really helped. List a bit of flexion due to more scar tissue but pain is less. Before couldn't sleep with sheets touching the bumps. Now no problem.
I'm at six months post TKR. Everything else is great but two weeks ago these four bumps appeared. The surgeon said they were sutures and he could remove them with surgery if they got too painful. However, he didn't seem concerned...said he would see me in six months unless they got worse. I'm frustrated.
After revision where scar tissue was removed I had 10 sutures you could see under the skin. 3 were just below my kneecap and extremely painful. Couldn't have a sheet touch it. Had all removed with surgery and much better now.

1 ReactionI went back to my surgeon after mine did not dissolve. I have about eight under my skin. The surgeon was not particularly helpful. He basically said didn't know and a surgical removal would not be without some risks and also it's surgery. He sent me two ultrasound and for more imaging. She was not helpful. recommended massaging already tried that that did not help. Ultimately, they said maybe go to a dermatologist. There might be some laser to penetrate, but I think I'm just stuck with them which is not great.

I had 10 prominent sutures around right side of kneecap. The surgery to remove them wasn't bad. Had to wear brace and not bend knee for 2 weeks. Much improvement.

Hi can you tell me a little more about the removal surgery and I do you have any pictures b4 and/or after. when you say the right side of your kneecap which knee was it on? Mine are on the inside of my left knee. Thank you!
Sorry no. 2 were directly on top of the shin bone just below the kneecap. They were pointy and hurt to t ouch. The others were in row curved around the inside of the kneecap from top to bottom. The 2 pointy sutures were the problem but surgeon said might as well take them all out. Much easier recovery since the sutures were not deep. Just had to keep knee straight. Lost 10 degrees of bend probably due to more scar tissue but worth it. Good luck.
