New here, 1.5 weeks post op Lobectomy….

Posted by daisydays @daisydays, Apr 12 5:45pm

Hello everyone and Thank you all for being here.
I was diagnosed with NSCLC, Stage 1b due to size.
Surgeon removed tumor along with RML.
Lymph nodes all benign, I am so grateful.
I will learn soon of treatment.
I’m hanging in there despite the expected pain,
Some difficulties with sleep as I see is common.
I’m walking, walking and walking some more, that really helps !
I don’t have any questions as of yet, hoping to help others if I can.
🙂

@daisydays Thank you!! It’s so helpful to hear about other’s experiences. I didn’t think about lozenges and stool softeners (for home) but it’s nice to have those things on hand when needed.

@easmith
You’re welcome, glad to help.
I thought of something else, I use a cool humidifier in the winter to counteract dry air, and now I’m finding it helpful with the coughing that I’ve experienced post surgery.

@easmith you're most welcome. I also have adenocarcinoma stage 1B. Have they tested you for biomarkers yet?

No, not yet. I need to look up what those are… it’s so much education between diagnosis and treatment. @mamajite

@easmith it can be overwhelming but we're here to help! biomarker testing looks at the genes of your cancer to see if there is a "targeted" drug that is a match. I expect they will test your tumor after surgery, but it is definitely something to ask your oncologist/surgeon if they will be doing. here's a link with more info from the American Lung Association.

@lls8000

Thank you lls8000, I appreciate your kind message. Yes, walking I feel has helped my recovery, lowers risks of blood clots and such too. YES, has helped with sleeping as well, it has been hard to get comfortable but once I am, out like a light luckily.
Yes, I will, thank you…. And I’m glad that I found your group too!

Your diagnosis and timing sounds very similar to mine. I’m 5 weeks out of lobectomy surgery and due to start Tagrisso this week. How are your incisions healing? I’m also walking and doing well with recovery. I’m 65, non-smoker, in Idaho.

@lisawolub
Hi Lisa,
Walking is great ! It helped even more than I thought it would. It relieved my pain within minutes ! 😊
Yes, we are similar, glad to hear you are also doing great with your recovery as well. Thank you, my incisions are healing perfectly. And have only improved since those first few weeks. At just over 3 months now, they all look even better. How are yours healing ?

I’m also 65 😊 I’ve never been to Idaho, it is just beautiful there ! I’m in NY’s Hudson Valley, it’s pretty here too.

I read all you went through to diagnosis…. gees !
I’m sorry you have had to face this, and I too feel better after surgery, the fear reduces substantially. Today you begin the Tagrisso, only positive thoughts being sent your way ! 😊

Beyond EGFR 19, I had to go back through my Tempus results… below is what I see but I will confirm with my oncologist! I chickened out and didn’t start Tagrisso last night … tonight it is! 😉

@lisawolub I believe E746_S752 is an uncommon exon 19 mutation and CTNNB1 actually helps Tagrisso work more effectively. Good luck getting started - the first one is the hardest. hugs!
