Statin and psoriatic inflammatory enthesis
Rosuvastatin 10mg 3 months, swelling burning ankles and lower legs. I have had pain in the back of my knee, calf pain and upper hamstring pain for 10 months and diagnosed in June with psoriatic enthesis. (swelling of muscles and tendons where they attach to the bone). I’m currently speaking with my primary care physician about cessation of this statin. I have been through too much pain the past 10 months with enthesis. I can tell the difference between enthesis and this ankle pain. I will discuss other options with my Dr. Surely psoriatic patients with this muscle issue should not be on a statin. Anyone else with this issue?

The Enthesitis pattern of psoriatic arthritis is chronic and can be aggravated
by repetitive movements. It would not be a typical statin side effect.
Consulting a rheumatologist may be necessary with your persistent pain.
Is your psoriasis under control.? Labs for inflammation and muscle enzymes are important. Psoriatic arthritis is a systemic disease that can cause widespread autoimmune symptoms. Ultrasound is helpful in showing
involved muscle bone stress points. With failure of NSAIDS I have done well on Humira.
Systemic autoimmune diseases can accelerate atherosclerosis.
When my cardiologist became aware of PsA he started atorvastatin to mitigate the increased risk. You may benefit from a therapy break and a
trial of different statin. Know your labs. I am a senior with access to university
associated specialists and caring PCP I can reach out to.

3 ReactionsThanks, I do not have skin involvement with this issue.. Arthritis doctor, no joint inflammation in blood work.
Previous history of psoriasis and enthesis. The ankle issue is a seperate issue and in my case is caused by rosuvastatin. My pc took me off of it today. Everybody is different and some may not have any issues. Unfortunately not in my case. Exacerbating any current muscle pain and causing new symptoms is not an option.

3 ReactionsHi @buddhadoll, you’ve been through a lot over the past 10 months, and I’m glad your PCP is working with you to sort through how rosuvastatin is contributing to these new symptoms.
I’m curious about your journey and am having trouble tracking the timeline. It sounds like you started the statin prior to entensitis diagnosis. Did you already have psoriatic arthritis before you started the rosuvastatin, or what was the diagnose succession? Also, is your primary care provider coordinating everything, or are you also working with a rheumatologist or cardiologist on these decisions?
I’m wondering what you’re hoping to learn from other members. Are you looking to connect with people who have psoriatic arthritis or enthesitis and have taken statins, or are you hoping to hear how others balanced treating high cholesterol when a statin didn’t agree with them?
I am tagging @terrez who has discussed some of what are dealing with. Understanding a little more about your situation may help connect you with other members whose experiences are most similar.
@jlharsh inflammatory enthesis is a form of psa, asking their experience with statin. Enthesis diagnosed prior to statin.
