Ultrasound cause a Blood clot?

Hello everyone,
I was recently admitted to the ER with a pulmonary blood clot. The first day I was there the doctor ordered a ultrasound of my legs thinking that's what caused my clot. However, the technician pushed so hard on my upper leg that it caused 10 bruises and one of them he kept pushing on so hard (about 5 times) that it cause a 3 1/2 inch bruise. When the bruise showed up a couple of days later I noticed there was a big soft lump under it. Since then the bruise is still there but the lump has gotten small round and hard (like a BB). I haven't reported it to any doctor cause the tech said he had to push that hard to make sure the vein flattened so the blood was flowing through. I'm worried now that it can cause a clot should I report this to a doctor and find out?

@luckylady1315 Whenever you have a concern about whether a medical procedure was properly done or possibly caused injury, it should promptly be brought to the attention of the treating physician, and the technician's immediate supervisor.

Mayo Connect members are not medical professionals, and are not in a position to say whether the technician used proper technique nor to say what the injury risks might be.

Please report your concerns to your doctor, or if it was done in the ER, to the medical supervisors.

@sueinmn As the old aphorism goes, 'Better safe than sorry.' Clots are dangerous and if you suspect you have one, it might travel if it's true. So, get it checked!

Ultrasound techs can be rough…self-advocate the second you feel too much pain from their pressing ! I always start a session asking them to be gentle, not pressing quite so hard…

@nycmusic , if a hospital employee causes me any pain, I immediately request another person. Especially where blood clots are concerned. I have had three clots in my legs and two in my lungs. It is your body.
