Lightheadedness after 4 minor strokes and 1 TIA. Thoughts on why?

Posted by wlb2 @wlb2, Jul 7 8:24am

I have CVD and labile blood pressure. Sometimes I had brief lightheadedness with low blood pressure/dehydration that was fixed by drinking water. After 4 minor strokes and 1 TIA in 7 months, I now often have longer lasting lightheadedness (not dizziness) even with high blood pressure. My doctors and I don't know why (heart monitor did not identify a cause.) Any thoughts?

I can relate to your lightheadedness and find that music (singing)is helpful in alleviating symptoms.

@pontiac1961 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. That is fascinating that you find singing to be helpful in alleviating symptoms of lightheadedness.

Have you experienced a stroke that prompted the lightheadedness you've experienced? If so, will you briefly share what happened?

I don’t know if this is helpful, but I had a stroke last October and I was incredibly lightheaded/dizzy for months afterwards. It gradually subsided. I still get very lightheaded with heat or when I’m not drinking enough.

I am a Type 2 diabetic. I have had lightheadness for 3 years and Nuerologist and my primary dismiss it as if is a figment of my imagination. Is because I am 73 and they just want me to go away or maybe just die??

Have you checked your blood pressure? I felt light-headed and actually fainted in the kitchen one night. It was caused by medications, specifically a medication for lowering blood pressure. I cut the medication in half and haven't had a problem since.

@ionashepherd Thanks. I'm glad it subsided. I hope mine does too. I get lightheaded when dehydrated as well, but that I can readily resolve by drinking. My concern is lightheadedness when not dehydrated or hypotensive. Thanks.

@aipulu Yes, I get lightheaded with low blood pressure, usually due to dehydration, but that I can readily fix. My issue is with lightheadedness with regular or high blood pressure and not dehydrated. Thanks.
