A Dr of Pharmacy is an excellent idea. I myself use them often. They are helpful.

Lexapro was beyond awful for me. I was only on it for a month and couldn't handle the side effects. I gained weight and have this feeling in my head of confusion and being in a dream like state. I was unable to drive or sleep. I stopped talking it and these feelings are still present. Doctor told me it may take months for it to subside. I know it has worked for others but I regret ever starting it.

I can relate with you about antidepressant withdrawal, I also tried Lexapro and after two weeks of hell I switched to Peroxitine…they were both a nightmare for me and the side effects were severe enough to ruin my life for some time. I only took the second antidepressant for five weeks at a micro dose of 2.5 mg., the doctor weaned me off them too fast and I got Serotonin Withdrawal Syndrome, it lasted six months of living hell. I will never ever take these meds again, they’re clearly not for everyone. I suffer from anxiety and depression, I wanted to take something to help me cope with my life, the symptoms they caused me were severe and the withdrawal was equally bad, hopefully one day they will come out with something better for people who can’t tolerate this type of medication.

@frouke Thanks for sharing your horrific story. So sad for you. Unbelievable that you suffered 6 months after only taking a drug for 5 weeks. This stuff is evil. I working hard at not being scared to death by these stories. I’ve been on Lexapro for 4 months. I’m not well but I don’t know what’s causing the symptoms because I’m in the process of tapering off clonazepam and I can’t stop Lexapro until that’s done which may be another month or more. AUGH!!!

@meingan I wasn’t aware that you’re tapering off Clonazepam, benzodiazepines have terrible side effects when you’re trying to stop them. Did you go on Lexapro to help you with the tapering?

@frouke No, not for tapering. My 2nd drug after Venlafaxine for severe anxiety. Doc wants me to try another! NO WAY!!!
Yes, I’ve been suffering a lot on the BENZO tapering. Down to 0.0625mg now. Going to try jumping off the bridge in about a week.

My misunderstanding, it’s awful how much these med can make you feel and they’re supposed to help you with your mental health, some people say that you have to tough it out and get through the bad stuff first before you feel better, no thanks, I’ve been through bad things with cancer so I don’t have the strength to endure them.

@thena1877 what does such were you taking? I just started on Lexapro recently at the lowest dosage but probably will be increasing the dosage. Thanks. Good luck and God bless you.

My medication specialist at Mayo Psychiatric Department says Lexapro (Escitalopram is to bring you to a normal level. It is not for making you feel better than a normal. There are no highs with it. I have been on Escitalopram for over 10 years.

It has helped me a lot. But from time to time I have a very stressful event and my specialist suggested to take another half pill (I am on 10 mg.) if I needed to. I did not up it. I tried to do more in my life style (exercise more) and it slowly got better.
