Is it true that you can't go on belatacept if you've had more then one transplant,?

Hi @banksnc49 😊
I am a two year post kidney transplant patient.
I am very happy to hear that everything is going so well with your Belatacept infusions. I am curious when and why they changed you to Belatacept infusions. (I like to educate myself on the arsenal of immune suppression drugs and when they are used). Were you having a problem tolerating Tacronlimis or Cellcept or was it something else?
Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

I have been on belatacept since the beginning. I also take Myfortic. I was put on belatacept because I had most of my small intestine removed due to it being full of blood clots. They were concerned that I would not be able to absorb the pills required so the belatacept was a life saver for me because it’s absorbed in the blood stream. However, I do absorb the Myfortic. I’ve never had any problems with either drug.

I started Belatacept because I was having rejection issues, 9 yrs post transplant. We tried Plasmapherisis,
IVIG, Rituxan, and velcade.I have been on Belatacept for over 9 yrs now, along with 250 mg of cellcept feeling great and all numbers are stable. Proteinuria is gone.
Red blood count in urine gone as well..

I have been on belatacept for almost 8 yrs. It has worked very well for me. I have had no problems with it. I get my infusion once a month forever. I don’t mind having to go. It’s a half hour treatment that takes about 1 1/2 hrs total unless it’s really busy like it will be this Tuesday because of the holiday.

Hi Nancy
Did you start on it or were you on tacrolimus, Prednisone and celcept for a time?

I gave my wife a kidney 8 years ago tomorrow. Unfortunately, she has been on tacrolimus so once day 1. Not surprisingly she now has substantial 30% scaring, blood pressure issues, ...

We are looking for alternatives. What has your experience with Belatacept been like? Are their similar drug related problems or is it less harmful on your system?

Thanks

George
