Are there any absorption issues when Taking Magnesium Glycenate and R-ALA supplements? Is any type of timing or spacing apart required?

I find it very unclear which supplements and at what dose may be helpful for Idiopathic.
Hard to find that specific info and guidance.

Totally understand. I am Idiopathic and taking R-ala, benfotiamine, magnesium and B12. Not noticing big difference. Optimistically may be slowing progression at best. Have appt at Duke Neurology Clinic in November. Will stay with current routine until then.

I have been taking R-ALA for a couple of years now as recommended by my endocrinologist
My PCP recommended coconut oil as well. I found R-ALA in a lozenge with coconut oil. A little pricey (abt $30 a mnth) on TikTok. I take 600mg (3 lozenges) in the morning and 600mg in the evening. I have a sense that it is helping but can't put my finger on it.

I also take magnesium glycinate (400mg gummy an hour before bedtime. It does seem to help me sleep.

Ala, magnesium, b12, omega 3, acetyl-L-carnitine, vitamin d is what I take. Pretty sure they dont do anything as Ive gotten worse. I cant afford them anyway so once I run out I wont be buying them anymore. Then I will know if they did anything once I stop. I read more people saying they arent sure if they do anything. I figure if they actually did something I would KNOW and I would be back at work, not walking with a cane, a leg brace, losing function in my arms at 48 but that is not the case…..

Edit - I just noticed the magnesium I have is magnesium bisglycinate. I did take glycinate before but I feel the same on both.

I am now rating and documenting my symptoms from 0-5 (none to High) on a daily basis. I have an appt with Duke Neuro Clinic in Nov. I am currently at a 1 on the left and a 2 on my right. Will continue supplement regimen and re-evaluate then.

I take a number of OTC medications including R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (the "R" is important: R-Alpha Lipoic Acid is the better choice because it is the naturally occurring, biologically active form of the antioxidant that your body produces and uses making it significantly more potent and bioavailable than standard Alpha Lipoic Acid which is often a synthetic mix).
With the R-Lipoic Acid, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, I also take Acetyl L-Carnitine. Studies by the National Institute of Health indicate that this combination may improve age-related metabolic decline, support nerve and cognitive health, and help manage blood sugar regulation.
Regarding Magnesium Glycinate, I was advised to take it after eating (because of stomach issues) so I take it after breakfast.
Just because the above works for me (along with a number of other supplements) doesn't mean it would work for you. I spent much time researching the supplements that "could" help my IPN. Once I had the supplements I researched timing of the supplements and "strengths" of each supplement. Once I had my list together, along with my prescribed medications, I met with a hospital's physician (both an MD and a PharmD) to go over my list to (1) insure that I was getting the most out of what I was consuming on a daily basis and (2) insure there was no conflict with amount(s), timing and my prescribed medications. I received his "blessing" and did not need to change anything!
