Eliquis OR cholesterol med causing muscle weakness, and legs..

Posted by ruth36 @ruth36, Jun 20 9:59am

I’m on both Eliquis and a cholesterol med and I have been getting muscle weakness, especially in my legs. I’ve noticed a list of side effects for both meds for muscle weakness. How can we determine which med it is? What have other people with the same problem done if Dr. still doesn’t believe these meds cause side effects.

I’ve been off the cholesterol for week now and there is no difference in the weakness in my legs, but I think I’m gonna give it another week.
I never heard directly from my cardiologist just the NP..🤨

Im not sure about your medicine. I was on lipitor; funny thing as I had been on it for several years then all of a sudden I had bad side effects. I don't want to tell you something that will affect your health; just an my experience. Take care and prayerfully you will get it all worked out.

FYI. I’ve been off the cholesterol med for a week now, but I don’t see any difference in my legs still just as weak. Never heard directly from my cardiologist just the NP and that was when I first sent my message letting them know I need a break from me, but I think I’m going to give it another week..
I really believe it’s the Eliquis. That’s causing the weakness., When I asked NP why the cardiologist extended the Eliquis to longer than the year, she said I have a bill, but when she looked up my records, it was when I was in the hospital after I had the heart attack. I did wear a monitor for about a week and the results came back normal and in my follow up appointment I don’t recall anyone telling me. I did have a bit so I don’t know what’s going on.

@ruth36 FYI, I should have reread my message because the AutoCorrect messed it up. I was told I have a fib, but that was when I was in the hospital with a heart attack.

I wrote on my chart to my cardiologist and explained I wanted to take a break from the Eliquis and the cholesterol med. I was taking (one at a time) so I can figure out which one is causing the weakness in my legs. It’s been a couple of days, but I haven’t heard back from her, but I did hear from a nurse in her office and she said she would contact the doctor again and said I could stop taking the cholesterol med for a week or two.. But I already started that process before I heard back from her so it’s been two days without being on it. I would like to go at least three weeks to see if I noticed the difference and then I know I will have to ask for blood work done to check my cholesterol just to be safe that it didn’t skyrocket. I don’t know if anybody else on this site happens to be on the Eliquis AND also a cholesterol med ( Rosuvastatin) and is having the muscle weakness in their legs. If so, please let me know.
Thanks

@ruth36 my brother is on both of those and his right leg is in so much pain he can barely grocery shop , they cut him back on the statin to one pill a week long time ago and the pain actually seems worse lately.

I’m 80… I know everybody ages, but I’ve always been active. I don’t run or belong to gym but I’ve never been a couch potato… my lake we just started a month after I started taking the Eliquis and compared to this time last year. I have so much weaker in my legs. Other than that I think I feel pretty good most of the time.

I stopped the statin within a few weeks of starting and I noticed the change in muscle weakness within a few days. I wonder if it will take longer to recover if you've taken a statin for months or even years? I realize this is only my experience and everyone is different. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I’ve wondered if the damage to my muscles because I’ve been on both Eliquis and The statin for you and a half Will be permanent…
It’s in 10 days since I stopped the Statin And I don’t see any change, so I’m wondering if it might be the Eliquis that’s causing it.. I don’t want to stay off the step for too much longer because I don’t want my cholesterol to start to get high and I don’t know even when I go back on it how I can determine it is the Eliquis. I really don’t think my cardiologist Wants to take me off at all altogether. I take 20 mg so I’m wondering maybe if I could cut it down to 10 daily.
