Anyone experiencing muscle atrophy/muscle wasting due to Long COVID?
I have long covid (2 1/2 years) and have been experiencing progressive muscle atrophy/muscle wasting which is unrelated to inactivity. To the contrary, I have tried to stay very active with walking, swimming, resistance training, but none of it does any good. The muscle atrophy continues and is debilitating. The head of the local long covid clinic said I was the only patient out of the 3,000 patients he has seen in LC clinic with this symptom.

I’ve recently come across muscle mass lost issues. I have noticed it in both arms — loss of muscle mass, weakness, and saggy, floppy skin. HELP!!!
Thanks from Sue
I also suffer from this since having long COVID now 5 years ago. It's demoralizing. I can't walk long distances. My right leg is weak and heavy feeling. My left leg has some nueropathy. I have been to a long COVID Dr., as well as an Orthopedic Dr. I have been in rehab, doing mostly leg strengthening exercises, and using bands. It's helping. I also have been wearing weights around my ankles. Somedays, I still have to lift my right leg to get into my car. But, I shoulder on. It's all we can do. As you noted, even with all the studies that I was a participant, there is still a general lack of knowledge surrounding how to treat those with our symptoms from long COVID.

4 ReactionsNot sure what you mean by atrophy. If you've been an active for 2 1/2 years you will get atrophy. But if you've been active like you say I guess anything is possible with long covid. I've been taking creatine for a few months and it does increase muscle mass and has increased activities for my bodies and legs quite a bit but it hasn't worked as well on my arms and hands but the look at them the muscle mass is increased so go figure? I'm curious as to what activities you have been doing and what your symptoms are for LC.

2 ReactionsI also have muscle wasting on the entire right side. The drs have told me they have never seen this before. I have a long list of other symptoms but the wasting and brain fog are the worst.
Has your Doctor caught up the times yet? Most haven’t and it’s now 2026…. As a long hauler I continue to research and incorporate what I determine to be worthwhile in my attempts to make progress with my symptoms. Of the many doctors I saw since Covid attacked I actually can’t name one that had anything to offer. They basically used old familiar labels for cluster symptoms that have led nowhere. This is validated by:
Patient-Led Research Collaborative's (PLR
Long COVID is a worldwide public health crisis that has affected over 400 million individuals1 with no approved treatments. While there are numerous options to manage Long COVID symptoms, there are no treatments to address the root cause.
With that said, I offer my latest incorporation to address the muscle wasting/atrophy I experience after lifting wrights and gym routines 30 days a month up until I had Covid. I preface this with the fact that I do not entertain recommendations of pharmaceutical offerings that may have worse side effects than what I’m experiencing.

I am on a daily intake of Urolithin A stacked with Urolithin B. You can Google those supplements and certainly use Ai for elaboration since Ai is way ahead of the medical profession. And most assuredly, you should ask your “doctor” regarding anything I am saying.
Continuing…I am trying this for 4 months based on research for effectiveness for extreme fatigue, muscle atrophy, and Covid induced neuropathy. Even as I list those, I am rather entertained by my sticktoitiveness to function as if they don’t exist. Power of the mind and the brilliance of the body to gravitate toward healing. The combo is magnificent.
I believe if you research the Urolithin A and B you will find it interesting. I purchased A on Perpetua.life.bio
for legitimacy and cost. SNS Nurition for the B since is very hard to obtain. DPS also supplies the SNS B.
I just completed month 2 so I will try to remember to update in 2 months or sooner.
@gritsfl I'm taking Choline,NAC,NAD,And zinc.Been doing this now for about two weeks(except for the NAC..been taking that for a long time now.I actually feel sharper and more stable energetically.I lost over 30 lbs within a month or two at the onset of LC.Couldn't eat. That weight has not come back...except for 10 lbs.I'm 72.Got covid in early 2020.I can treadmill okay.So there's that.On my feet all day at work. There was a time I couldn't stay at work several times. It's all good. That's over.I'm staying the course.Things are definitely changing for the good now. There IS recovery.I'm here.I'm recovering.Stay strong guys and don't listen to every youtube 'dr'.Lots of scams goin on.Take care all and have a blessed day...even in the midst of this thing.
