Has anyone tried the Bredesen Protocol for Alzheimer’s and Dementia?
Is anyone familiar with the Bredesen Protocol which appears to have had some outstanding success reversing early to mid stage Alzheimer’s ? It’s successes with Floridians made the front page of our newspaper last week, The Herald Tribune, which, I believe, has the highest circulation on the Gulf Coast. I bought three of Dr. Dale Bredesen’s ( MD) books and am considering finding a practitioner for my husband and for myself, as a prophylactic for dementia.

3 ReactionsI had not heard of this so I did some research, the first two things that worries me is the 12 hour fasting and putting the person into ketosis, and the aim of 6 to 9 cups vegetables. I’m not sure what stage your husband is in, but this could be very difficult for him, which leads to my final point, these protocols are highly demanding and require constant monitoring which can lead to burnout. As caregivers we already have so much on our plates without adding more. I would suggest just eating a balanced diet leading towards more vegetarian recipes ( a lot of them I get from Pinterest) cut out refined foods and sugar. I hope this helps and I wish you the best.

3 Reactions@marionbuck There is no such thing as reversing Alzheimers disease, despite years of research costing billions of dollars. Yet every day/week/month a new cure becomes big news. This one is no different.
Not only you and your husband, but millions of other people wish there was a cure or proven prevention for this terrible affliction.

What you read as an endorsement, I read as an advertisement, talking about current short-term results for a single patient - in science this is "anecdotal evidence", not proof. When looking to the main Bredesen Protocol Website, the one clinical study cited involved 25 people, an earlier one included 100. In neither study did they measure an untreated control group to see how they compared.
Have you read this rebuttal?

While I truly believe that a healthy diet and lifestyle, as well as keeping the mind and body active, can help delay the onset of symptoms of Alzheimer's and some other dementias, so far science has found no way to prevent or cure it.
To me the true "Red Flag" is that Bredesen left his research at Buck Institute to promote his business full time. If this was a verifiable and viable system, why didn't he continue to develop it inside the scientific system?
Now you have my 2 cents worth, and I fervently wish there was a cure. We lost our 69 year old niece to the ravages of dementia just one month ago, and it has afflicted my family and my husband's for generations.

4 ReactionsHi @marionbuck Having been a caregiver for over 14 years, I join in the ‘beware’ chorus. There is no way a fast like that and that volume of food would have ever been possible. In my experience it would have been a very negative experience for my wife to even try and tolerate this regimen.
Also, having worked for years in the research area of the national Alzheimer’s Association, I never encountered any true research that found anything that reversed the disease.
Strength, Courage, & Peace
I wish you
