How do you handle your appearance as you age?

Posted by Lee @galere, Jun 3 5:08am

I don't want to sound vain, or anything like that, but it looks like I aged overnight. I need dental work , that doesn't help much, but I'm almost so self conscious I don't want to go out anywhere.
I've always taken care of my skin, with creams etc. But the wrinkles just seemed to of came on.
I know this probably sounds like I care to much for looks but I feel ashamed of myself

I am 84, male, and I have found a way to stand out. Ten years ago, I was getting Mani-peticurs since I couldn't reach my toes. The gals would always ask what color I wanted my nails. For at least six months, I said no. One day I was in a different mood and wanted something different. I chose light blue. I got positive feedback especially from waitresses. Then I got into the holiday spirit and whatever was a symbol of a holiday, I could get the gals to paint the symbols on my nails: Pumpkins, stars & strips, candle flames, flowers, etc. I was in an accident, just me, wearing light blue with sparkles; went to the ER and ended with laughter over the light blue polish. Stopped the cooloring for a while. I have a beard which is pretty much white. Last March, I had the beard dyed Emerald Green, lots of fun. It soon faded and we went to bright blue. In July, I am thinking of bright red. My beginning plan was to do Hot Pink in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And, yes, the blue has faded. A smile is always on.

My second son was a career Air Force. Started as a helicopter pilot. When he stopped flying, he got various teaching and admin assignments. The first time he interviewed for an embassy assignment, the lady from the State Dept asked him why he was smiling. He told her. "I always smile, it keeps me positive and my crews happy. And yes I do understand the seriousness of the assignment."

Remove the mirror. Beauty is on the inside too. Wrinkles are a sign
of wisdom which is earned. Self acceptance can sometimes be difficult.
Try to find a sense of purpose. Change is constant.

I just sent this to my skylight picture frame. Wonderful, thank you! (Didn’t you just LOVE her in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? Fav quote: Everything will be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it is not yet the end.” AND “Nothing here has worked out quite as I expected it,” with reply, “Most things don’t. But sometimes what happens instead is the good stuff.”)

@babbsjoy “Well, I woke up this morning seeing flowers instead of roots, so I guess I’m doing fine!”

That's GREAT!
My dad used to say: "I am vertical, I guess it is going to be a good day!".

My mother told me not to look x in the Mirror so often,
I am 89. I’m still living.. What more can I expect?. I love the same. I still see the top of the flowers.. My hair looks to the garden. And that Accountant For me for everything.
You can get your knowledge from the iPad. I stopped looking television, Because I do not like too much of it. But eating as good as you can. Is the best for ever seeing that bothers you?.
Thank you for all the suggestions.

@estutweh I don’t look in mirror very often. I’m 78. Know full well what I look like. Best wishes.
