Shocked by aging process

Posted by seniormiz @seniormiz, Jan 25 8:54am

My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

No, Ray, I think they are common than that. I have kept mine since the 1980s.

Hi again, @barbaradh

Me, too. I have a half dozen "retired" commonplaces on the shelf. I can't recall when I first started. "Long ago," that's for sure. 🙂

Hi, @gravity3

A commonplace, or common book, is usually a notebook of sorts in which a person jots down most anything he or she fings striking. My commonplace is filled with everything from snippets of poetry, song lyrics, passages of prose, most anything that, when I read it, I thought, Hmm, I'd like to remember that! I believe more people kept commonplaces or common books in years past; fewer do nowadays.

Cheers!

@ray666 So, much like a diary, although that (diary, or journal) sort of dictates that you post to it daily. While I've never kept a diary or journal, I have a notebook on the nightstand in which I've recorded significant or unusual dreams. Haven't posted anything lately - maybe I need to adjust my late-night snacking to promote something noteworthy.

Ah, the ol' late-night snacking! That's a weakness of mine, too, @capnjack. It used to be ice cream, but I found myself overindulging. I now use dark chocolate, four little squares, no more, no less. And I make a point of having those square ca. 8 p.m., so they're out of my tummy by bedtime.

I guess I've gotten used to the regimen of a daily journal. But I keep small spiral-bound notebooks scattered about my house, so when I get an idea, I've a place to put it down; otherwise, it'll fly off into the ether.

Cheers!

A shoebox will do the trick, @shmerdloff. I've only recently realized that I need to "standize" my note-taking. When I've an idea, I'll grab whatever scrap of paper is readily available. True story? The other day I saw something I'd scribbled on one of those little squares of paper the pachagers put between slices of sliced cheese. I tried to read what I'd written. I couldn't. So no more squares of paper between slices of sliced cheese. From now on, only bona fide notebooks! 🙂

If there's no paper, I'll etch it into the cheese.

Here's one: Sympathy is what you have seeing another person's plight. Empathy comes from having been there yourself and living through another's plight with them.

I will often use the Notes area on my iPhone, to jot down things I want to remember, anything from a sermon, the title and author of a book I want to read, thoughts that I want to reflect upon more, to a summary of one of my dad’s doctors appointments. Very handy since phone is usually with me.

Sounds like she was ready to go but didn't want to ruin the holiday party.
Very common to hold off death for various reasons.
May God bless her.
