What brought you joy today?

Posted by northoftheborder @northoftheborder, Jun 28, 2024

If you've been living with cancer for a while, you know it's not all gloom and doom. Where did you find joy today? I'll start:

1. Working in my garden.
2. Meeting my daughter for tea.
3. Home-made pizza for dinner.
4. My spouse (always).
5. Some interesting online discussions.
6. Rereading a good novel.

I didn't watch the news coverage.

@zenren14 A very good move.

If you ever do want to stay more connected without all the doomscrolling, I find it helpful to subscribe directly to news providers using an RSS reader. That gets me away from the endless overanalysis, fake anger, and panic on social media, but still lets me keep up what's happening in the world in a calm, measured way.

Checking my RSS news feeds (from BBC, CBC, etc) 1×/day is usually more than enough.

Listening to song birds at 3:30am to sunup in the morning.

Watching the clouds each day as weather patterns change.

Reading what others found joy in. Usually the simple things

Reading biographies of great saints of old and the writings of the Puritans.

Having a long conversation with my cousin. We shared old family stories and laughed and laughed. We made a pact to call each other once a week.

@zmarkv Grandchildren and grandpuppies are always special. But I've found that with cancer, and knowing that I originally wasn't supposed to be around long enough to meet them, I love them so much that it aches.

Good night’s sleep last night.
Picking up micro greens for the week. Going to see Toy Story 5 with 3 of my grandkids, husband and daughter.
Eating some M&M Peanuts (candy is a rare and decadent treat since my diagnosis.)
Watching my husband and one grandson bumper-bowling.
Listening to kids laughing and playing while I sat outside.
My days are not generally filled with this much activity or joy but today by the grace of God there were too many other things to fill my plate. It truly is a blessing that I wish for all!
