Tapering off mirtazapine

Posted by ladydi82 @ladydi82, Aug 24, 2025

Hello, I’ve been on mirtazapine since March 2025. I was on 15mg, but as of last night I am on 7.5mg. I want to completely taper off. How long should I stay on 7.5mg by experience before stopping completely? Like I mentioned, I haven’t been on it long. Thanks!

@visionsofelvis same.. my issues are with the “hangover” I feel every morning until almost noon.. I hate it so, I’m gonna wean myself off asap

@marz560 Part of the hangover is because of the low dose. With mirtazipine the lower the dose the more the sleep effect. It works backwards from other medications for sleep issues. I would get a doctor’s opinion.

@joetex I am meeting with her Friday morning.. I think that’s part of what I dislike about this medication.. she started me at a higher dose and the hangover was worse than what I’m experiencing at 7.5 yes, it’s addressed my insomnia, but it’s not worth how much of my daytime routine has been affected by it. I want off asap and am hoping she has other medications options for me to explore.. thanks

Anyone experience some withdrawal once mirtazapine is stopped? First 3 nights off with little anxiety however last night harder to go to sleep. Dr prescribed Trazodone 50 mg along with buspar 10 mg twice a day for buspar.

@marz560 I remember that sluggish feeling. Mine lasted 4-5 weeks and then I adjusted. I didn’t think I ever would but I finally did. Good luck.

@visionsofelvis I am still on the 15mg. I started at 7.5mg for a few weeks then went to 15mg about 2 months ago. It took me 5 or 6 weeks to get over the tiredness but am okay now. But my appetite is going crazy. I don’t like that.
