Upper chest pain still exists after 10 weeks post surgery

Posted by mocgreen @mocgreen, Mar 11 7:05am

My AA repair was 10 weeks ago and my sternum pain has subsided fully, but I still have a lot of upper chest pain directly under my neck and on the right and left sides of my upper chest. It feels as if the inner skin is needing to be detached from other inner spaces in my chest. I hope this is clear enough for anyone else who may have experienced anything similar to comment.

@moonboy did you do any massaging in the areas? I read if you massage the area and the incision after it’s healed it can help keep those tissues from sticking together and reduce those weird feelings. It’s scares the bajeebees out of me. 9.5 weeks out from OHS septal myectomy

@cash298 so the one thing I’ve done that has really helped the scar on the sternum is to brush it with a boars hair brush. I know it sounds strange, but it seems to stimulate the scar tissue and has dramatically reduced the pain. My wife thinks that my scar is much less prominent than it was right after I had surgery in 2015. I think she’s right it has faded tremendously and feels much better than initially did. I still get occasional pains where one of the wires is. I can literally spot it in my annual CT scan scan scans and whenever I have a chest x-ray. So I would try to brush the scar tissue gently at First up and down inside the side with that brush. It will stimulate the tissue and it’ll make it feel better. Peace.

I had residual pain for 2.5 years and occasionally had pains for the last 10 years. It gets better. I feel normal now but you will always have pain in your xiophoid process because it is a piece of cartilage that had to be cut at the bottom of your sternum. You’ll be okay. All those tissues need to heal and grow back together. I’m sorry for your pain. I’ve been there. It’s going to get better ❤️‍🩹. Peace.
