Parus (@parus) – RE: Being Old With Chronic Pain plus Loneliness…Anyone else in the same boat?

Old? I sign up to that...with 76 trips around the sun. FWIW FYI: Getting old is the natural sequential order of living things. Nobody gets off the planet alive.
Chronic pain? No “Show Stopper Levels” here, only normal day-to-day aches and pains associated with being reminded that I am vintage.
Loneliness? One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. As for me, I, personally, have never been lonely, either when alone or in a crowd.

@jimhd I have seen 2 therapists and a psychiatrist. I found I am unable to break down and share with these " licensed. strangers" and also show up with my masks! The psychiatrist visit was horrible. I left in tears feeling worse than when I went in. I guess I was thinking he would try to make me feel comfortable, even lie down on the couch! Talk to me some Maybe open a dialogue. Not! I got preached at. Told their was nothing Wei g with me. Left feeling horrible in tears. This man did not even have my medical records and judged me without even knowing anything about me or my history. I too have had enough " therapy"! And I understand the frustration. Posting on here, reading other's comments helps more than anything!

Hi,

Sorry that you had such a bad experience. Psychologists very just like every other professional. I went through a couple other before I found one who specializes in trauma and who has helped immensely with my pain. A good marker would be to see a therapist who does EMDR, a process with lights or sounds which speeds up trauma therapy. Good luck!

I agree with you.  She needs a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist who does EMDR.  It’s painless and just redirects your brain to use different hemispheres and thought processes.  Don’t stick with a nasty professional.  They can be lethal.  @marylou705

@arcticmark Thank you for your words of wisdom!! Very much appreciated and I will try again when I "work up" the courage to "put myself out there " again! Finding the good therapist...that IS the challenge don't you think???

@marylou705 Thank you as well for your show of support! Since two folks in the group reccomend...I HAVE taken it to heart! I'm all for the type of therapy and these are the exact reasons I am so glad I found this support group!! The challenge will be finding thst good therapist! You've both given me a new direction to go in!!
Everybody benefits from these postings.I certainly HAVE. Thank you!!!

@tennesseegirl how horrible I'm sorry for your experience he should be reported to the AMA feel your pain. Hope you d nd someone who is caring to help you.

See if your Dr can recommend a Psychologist.  They don’t need to have a doctorate; a Masters is fine.
As to loneliness, you need to address that too.  I sing in the Choir, have a Writer’s Group, an Art Group and  sometimes drop in on the Genealogical Society.  Most of these courses are free at the Library.  I hope you can find some Group to socialize with.  Check your Library.
I have had a stroke, lung cancer, and have a PICC line for a liver infection, all in the last six months.  Autoimmune Disease is 25 years old.  I am 70.  @marylou705
