Bergamot
Has anyone tried Bergamot supplements to lower lipids? I have been reading about it and Bergamot is a citrus fruit from Italy. It is included in the Mediterranean diet but it is very difficult to find in USA as a fruit unless you get supplements. Studies have found it lowers the lipid levels drastically without the side effects that statins and non-statins lipid lowering drugs do. I live in Virginia and there is a Naturopathic physician who lives in Washington DC who is using it and his patients with high lipid levels have been using it with great results. I don’t go to naturopathic physicians but it seems Bergamot works. I am not a pill person and try to avoid them as necessary. I have been doing the Mediterranean diet for quite some time now and it is lowering my cholesterol, triglycerides, increasing my HDL but my LDL is stuck in 137 which is high and Bergamot works with LDL very well. I just wanted to know if anyone is being trying Bergamot supplements and if it is truly working. Let me know. Thank you.

@muellerda Yes, highly recommend. I heard it from some friends that took and had fantastic results.
Fish! I eat a bunch of white fish, salmon, white tuna, shrimp and it lowered my cholesterol about 30% without making any other changes. I tried everything for 10 years and couldn't get my 240 score to go down. I took in an Ukrainian refugee who liked fish so we ate a lot of fish! It was like a miracle. Only took 3 months. When she left my score went back to 240. So I repeated the fish and it dropped again to 179 only took 3 months!

4 ReactionsBergamot gave me GI issues….and after about three months, my LDL-C went up 28 points, and my non-HDL increased 25 points! But maybe the brand I purchased was not up to snuff, even though it was through a “professional quality” supplement company.
I drink Bigelow Earl Grey Tea - It has real Bergamot from Calabria, Italy, and is totally plastic free.
I am intolerable of all things statin and the other drugs to lower cholesterol, including Repatha. I do not take any cholesterol lowering meds and my last two total cholesterol readings were 188 and 200.
I have been thinking of buying a liquid supplement of Bergamot to add to my morning lemon water to cut down on my caffeine ( I'm a double bager).
Does anyone do that and what do you use?
