@ipg Here is one study on Fortibone collagen supplements that says:
"Conclusions: Long-term supplementation with specific bioactive collagen peptides appears to be effective in counteracting losses in BMD. Moreover, significant increases in BMD could contribute to improved bone stability."
When the study mentions "specific bioactive collagen peptides" it is referring to Fortibone.

@candaceb Please see my reply to the above person. You can also do a google search under "Fortibone studies".
@daisy17
Thank you - leaning toward Algecal vs native path. I will try
@ipg That's the brand I use. It's the cheapest Fortibone collagen I found, cheapest if you buy two at once and/or sign up for auto delivery on Amazon.
@daisy17
Do you think it helps??

1 Reaction@ipg I'm not sure how I will know for certain since I'm also taking a lot of vitamins and supplements. I'm taking it based on the studies that show it helps BMD, especially since I don't want to take any of the bone drugs.

I get it - remind me- do you have osteoporosis? When was your dexi? Still worried about meds and the side effects but I do think it’s inevitable. ? And you??
@ipg I'm 76 and my DEXA scores are -2.7 in my hips and -4,1 in my spine. Due to parathyroid issues, I can't take Tymlos or Forteo. I want to avoid Prolia due to increased fracture risk after stopping, think Evenity is too new and too expensive, and have read that bisphosphonates offer minimal benefits as far as fracture prevention. I am concentrating on supplements, diet and exercise. I am going to discuss HRT with my doctor, but have already been told by two other doctors that it's not recommended.
@daisy17 I use the Fortibone collagen from Osteonaturals , offered by Dr. Keith McCormick who wrote the book “Great Bones”. It is only the Collegen for your bones, doesn’t have the Collegen for your hair or skin like AlgaeCal does. That being said the scoop is smaller, but still the daily 5 grams of Fortibone recommended (and same as AlgaeCal ) , and it last so much longer than the container of AlgaeCal, which I had used previously before reading Dr. McCormicks book and finding his website. He doesn’t advertise like AlgaeCal does.

1 Reaction@izziesue You are right, the Osteonaturals collagen is much cheaper. It's sold in a 90 day supply which comes out to about $20/month. By comparison, the AlgaeCal with an Amazon subscription costs me $46 for 30 days.
I found a different collagen product on Amazon today, Advanced Collagen Complex, which contains the three types that AlgaeCal has and costs about $36 for 30 days, with an Amazon subscription. I'll order that next time as I like having the additional collagen for skin, hair, and joints.
Thanks for the info.
