How much Magnesium Gly. should we take with all the other vitamins and should it be taken at night?

I am scheduled for a Dexa on June 2 (6 months after my 1st Dexa) Yes a bit soon I know. I have been taking Algae Cal (no meds and no strontium) Had 2 compression fractures Nov 14th), I know it is too soon but I am anxious to know if it at least held to my numbers or got worse. I have another REMS scan in August. If by next November I do not see any good results or it all gets worse I will "consider" meds. I am also exerising

@lindamaegirl - would comparing BTM bone turnover markers be helpful in this situation? Apparently they reflect changes quicker than either DXA or REMS. Of course, that's assuming your dr ordered them (blood labs) when you were initially diagnosed & considered for meds.

With the changes I've made in nutrition, exercise & hormones I would also like to compare my BTM. My dr stated that they don't use them for this purpose. Several on this site and Inspire.com have paid for their own BTM labs as a way to evaluate their progress or lack of since introducing life changes/modifications.

Yes, I have taken AlgaeCal supplements (Calcium, Magnesium, & Strontium) since January 2023. I also started their Collagen in Feb, 2025, drinking one scoop daily. Last October 2025 I had a DEXA scan and my doctor said, "I don't know what you are doing, but...there was improvement." I am 77 and have been on thyroid medication for a few decades. I went from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia in the lumbar spine T-score readings in 2025. My lumbar spine T score when from 3.4 (2023) to 1.5 (2025). My left 'neck' hip went from 2.5 in 2023 to 2.6 in 2025. However, I did have an L2 fracture on 11/5/23 - I was cleaning my chest freezer and pulled up a fully loaded wire basket of frozen food from the bottom while bending over - not a brilliant thing to do! So I learned my lesson on how to move safely after much PT. Then I fractured my L3 on the way to South Africa! Loved the trip, but...a second fracture is not fun! But I continue to take my supplements and collagen and not stand on a low vibration plate twice a day to improve my bone density. I've been told to take some of those medications to improve my bones, but...so many potential side effects that I am not willing to try it yet.

@annabelle10 Keep in mind that when strontium is used in a high-dose supplemental form, it actually replaces calcium within your bones. Over time, this mineral substitution builds up and causes your DEXA scan results to appear artificially high.
