Have you experienced emotional challenges associated with epilepsy?
Have any of you seen a Psychiatrist for the Psychiatric problems that an epileptic will have, such as fear, depression, moods, anxiety, and many other emotional problems? I was made fun of by kids and I’m in my 50’s. Let me know. I have a fear of leaving my house when going to a lot of places. Do any of you have this problem?

Hi @methel
This must have been a happiness bomb and a great milestone you achieved! 🌻❤️💜
Living with epilepsy teaches us to appreciate things we once took for granted, like driving ourselves to the grocery store or hardware shop. Simple — and yet so meaningful.
How have you been lately?
Chris

1 ReactionCONGRATULATIONS!! How long were you restricted from driving? Like you, if I ever felt safe again, I'd drive no more than to the grocery store, hardware and my doctors' offices which are about 5 miles from my home.

How long has it been since your last seizure?
Do you not feel safe because you're having active seizures?
Take care,
Jake

1 Reaction@jakedduck1 Issues with my wife's new CEO, a ( Clown Excess Opportunity ) resulted in my anger-induced anxiety and stress, ended my 18 month's time length of being seizure free. The last seizure I had was about 60 days ago. As for feeling unsafe due to denial, it did not enter my mind until I joined this Mayo Support group. I've read about people falling in the shower and hurting themselves seriously. Since, I take showers quickly. I now do not feel safe anymore in the shower. FYI: a well renowned NFL player with 10 years of accolades, had started having seizures. He was found deceased in his shower. His denial of his seizure condition might have been the origin.

5 ReactionsThe Dr. s talked about Epilepsy. After more than a,year they decided that what was going on were panic attack
black outs. Looks like epilepsy .

It's been almost 3 months. I attribute it to my accidentally used 2 scoops of caffeinated coffee rather that my usual 2 scoops of decaf and 1 leaded. I believe it was the difference. I am always conscious of what I do with coffee. Only 1 cup in the morning and no more. I have no complaints and I care about all those who have epilepsy worse than me.

Any caffeine, even the amount in decaffeinated coffee, can give me a seizure. I miss the coffee but the choice is clear. Herbal teas. Occasionally when I feel daring particularly in hot weather, I drink a mini- coca-cola. Like you, I have no complaints and feel pretty lucky.

Thanks for asking. So far, so good. As they say, “no news is good news”. Although I drive ( quite legally) locally I no longer want to do serious distance driving alone and so my son drove me several hundred miles to visit relatives last week. So good of him ❤️
