Shingles is the Worst!!

Posted by jeaniebeanie59 @jeaniebeanie59, Mar 19 7:12am

I just turned 67. I started experiencing what turned out to be shingles on February 25, the day of my Dads funeral. I attributed it to stress, exhaustion, etc. But a week later I began to feel sharp pain and burning on my forehead, like I had hit my head on the corner of something and forgot about it. Then I thought I had a flare up of Trigeminal Neuralgia. (TN) On March 4 I went to ER because my eye swelled up and my forehead was turning red. Since that day, I don’t think I’ve ever been so sick. 2 weeks later, I’m about 25%better on the outward physical front, but the nerve pain on the right side of my head is still unbearable. And am still very weak and exhausted. These lingering symptoms are very much like TN, but so weird! Ironically I attempted to get shingles vaccine several times during my father’s last months, but something always happened and I had to reschedule. I’m not surprised Shingles got me when it did. I should have made getting the vaccine a priority a long time ago.

I surely understand as you can’t control the soreness and itching that comes with hives or shingles cause I know my dad had it and I wish you the very best and getting this under control. Take care.

My daughter in law swears by Surivon for Shingles. It's an all natural, herbal salve that she says works very quickly.

I'm so sorry you're going through that. The older vaccine was only good for 5 years, and I got shingles almost immediately after that. Like you I got it in the forehead and I was thinking maybe I had a migraine--I didn't know what a migraine felt like but it was the worst pain imaginable. I think I used a hot gel pack or hot washcloth and put it on my forehead. It was the only thing that helped. By the time I finally got it diagnosed, it was starting to heal. Your doctor could prescribe an opiate or even gabapentin for it, but they are of little use--maybe slight relaxation. It's so easy to forget oneself when taking care of others. You must have been under tremendous stress, and I'm sorry for your loss. Be good to yourself during this difficult time. I hope you are feeling better soon. God bless, LL

Not sure what you are looking for.
It had Maltitol Syrup which is grain alcohol. Not sure if you want the name of that, but I will give it to you it was Bariatic advantage.
They come in chewables and I do say they tasted very good and they had many flavors, but I am highly allergic to grain alcohol. Once I figured out it was that the Hives Slowly went away.
At the Clinic, they now have entered the syrup as one of my allergies. The only thing is, I did buy this through Amazon, so I have to be double vigilant about ordering supplement
Wish you the best

My nice neighbor died from getting shingles. He never got the vaccine and got a rare infection in his spine that caused brain swelling. He was 69. His sister told me she would tell him to get the vaccine but he didn’t.

@jeaniebeanie59 I feel your pain. Sorry to hear about your dad. I had shingles in my right eye, November 2024. My husband took me to the ER University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical group 3 times before the ER could figure out what it was. The 3rd trip to the ER I don't remember, but I was sent to another part of the hospital in the city that had an optical doctor on staff. Shingles infected my brain causing encephalitis. I don’t remember anything for a month, which caused me to be in bed for over a month, and I not only had nerve pain from shingles, but I also couldn’t walk. I had to gain muscle back in my legs. I still have nerve pain in my eye and the entire right side of my head. I got one of the shingles shots. I still have all the nerve pain. It is horrible. The stabbing pain and the burning and the stiffness are horrible. I still can see out of my eye.

@pschulte I am so very sorry to hear this happened to you! In December I had cataract surgery on my right eye. Shingles destroyed the lens and I couldn’t see out of that eye until a few weeks ago when a they tried to laser the lens. It’s about 80% better than it was but another constant reminder, along with the constant feeling of itching and burning on my eyelid, the feeling of water dripping from my eyelid, and 1000 ants crawling in my eyelashes. Add that to the complete numbness of my forehead when I touch it, yet it feels like hundreds of white hot needles are randomly attacking the upper right quadrant of my head. Also, I have no feeling on my scalp, and have to be careful about using hair tools. The final issue is sometimes at night I scratch myself so much I wake up with blood on my pillow! @pschulte , thank you for sharing; I’m not usually one to complain in a long sob story, but, as you’ve helped me, maybe someone out there can relate to something we are going through!🥰
