2:30 am wake-ups: What do you do?

What do you do about 2:30 am and 3:30 am wakeups? Lately, I am able to get to sleep at 10:30 pm (a GREAT improvement!), but now I wake up way too early.

I’ve been sleeping a little better since I got a sound machine, but am still awake at 2 to 2:30 AM frequently. I usually either read or work on crafts ( hand sewing ) until I hopefully get tired enough to try and go back to bed. But usually, once I’m awake, I’m up for the day. Averaging about 4 hours per night, with an occasional night of 7 hours. All this with taking 4 prescribed medications that are supposed to help me sleep. I fall asleep easily, but can’t stay asleep - which sounds like what you are experiencing. I pray that you find something that works for you.

I listen (not watch) old reruns of Frasier at a very low volume. I know the episodes and characters well so I’m able to follow the storyline without watching. Eventually I fall back to sleep. I also recently started the lowest dose of gabapentin and seem to sleep better once I fall asleep.

I can’t really take anything for sleep because I wear an insulin pump. It’s automated and usually keeps my blood sugar levels in good range, but I still must be diligent and attend to any alerts. It alarms and vibrates, in case I encounter too high or too low numbers, but it’s not very loud. I need to be able to awaken and alert enough to take action if required. I may need to take extra insulin, reinsert an infusion set, refill reservoir, consume carbohydrates, and monitor blood sugar with meter if the CGM malfunctions, etc.

I think I can hear my pump alerts well enough over the AC unit.

Often I watch/listen to a guided ocean meditation; just google it there are many out there. Sometimes homeopathic calms forte works & sometimes half a Benadryl.
