Does anyone have severe sciatic pain?

Have had all the scans, with all of the obligatory findings, was getting shots into that upper hip area every few months, walk good for awhile then start giving back the gains.
Was going to end up with the ultrasound guided shot in hospital. That was last year, have suffered with this for decades.
Today?
Threw cane in garbage months ago.
Lost pain management doc because turned down the meds voluntarily, so they dropped me, which was actually VERY liberating.
Legs went back at least 10 years (I'm mid-50's).

This is how all of that began, and not only am walking again, but can run/jog again after many many years.
Spent 3 days in ER in '24, could not even stand up, did THREE Dosepaks in a row.

Then read this, and that began the journey back to functionality.
*began* being the key word here.

Can find a copy cheap online. Zero regrets.

It plays a *huge* role, and my scan reports look like the one above, from inner pelvis to lumbar and beyond, atop MS.

Everyone in this thread needs to read it, because psychosomatic disease processes are very real.
The pain is real, but your mind/brain has a huge effect here.

Yes I have excruciating pain in my right buttock. Can't sit very long. Constant pain.
Hope you get some help God bless

My doctor prescribed gabapentin!

Zero pain now. One 300mg twice daily.

Minimal side effects for me. Side effects diminish over time!

Completely doable!!

I have taken gabapentin and Lyrica with little or no effect, plus 300mg twice a day of Lyrica made me a zombie.

@yram I too have nasty sciatic pai from l1 / l5 narrowing that is not pleasant while sitting or trying to stand. The sciatica has gotten that bad that it caused poly neuropathy in my feet and lower extremeties.Gabepentin, lyrica, neurontin, amytriptyline, noratryptyline did nothing to slow down the progression to the point where I can barely walk. They ordered a mri but I cant have it done for 5 months due to the system scheduling

If neither one helps it seems prudent ask whether or not your pain is nerve related, or that you may have mor than one thing going on. My first pain doc prscribed Baclofen a GABA clone. Have you tried that?

@bajjerfan I have and still do take Baclofen as a muscle relaxant but my nerve pain is sciatic related and was prescribed Lyrica. It helped for a while and when it became less effective, the higher dose prescribed side effects increased, resulting in brain fog and was counterproductive.

Baclofen and Lyrica was not a good combo for me and might be why you had issues with a higher dose of Lyrica. My doc prescribed 90 days worth of Baclofen and I lasted 2 days. $145 worth of meds ended up worthless to me.

@ladonnai I posted it somewhere in that thread. That started everything now am from cane/surgery/meds/pain doc to zero scripts and hopping around like a jackrabbit.
